Gaul appeared in 17 varsity games for the Cadets as a freshman, averaging 1.5 points and 0.7 assists in limited minutes, but he showed some flashes of his ability. He can play with or without the ball in his hands, showing comfort in ball screen actions as either a scorer or playmaker. Crestwood could be a sleeper team in 2A this winter, and Gaul’s continued development as a two-way guard is a significant reason why they could be improved.

A guard that can play on or off the ball, Gaul brings versatility to the point guard position. He can run off screens and launch from deep — with accuracy to the point that he can draw the defense away from the basket and find teammates for easy twos — but, he’s also able to attack the rim. He did so fearlessley against Cedar Rapids Washington, a much bigger school with big opponents to compete against.
