He’s shown the ability effectively lockdown guards and wing-forwards on the perimeter with his ball pressure, reaction-time, and anticipation for what was to come. His defensive versatility not only allowed him to battle amongst the trees down low but also switch on screens and not be outmatched by the size difference. Terrific awareness and effort defending off the ball, often bailing teammates out as a helpside defender resulting in steals and blocks each game. His great hand-eye coordination makes a constant threat to get a hand on the ball. Also an incredibly effective communicator with a knack for blowing up plays. The ultimate defensive glue guy, McCray approaches every defensive possession with intensity, never backing down from a challenge and always willing to do the dirty work.

He was a smart off-the-ball player with the awareness to duck in, cut, and position himself in the dunker’s spot, often resulting in easy layups or shooting fouls being called.

Justin McCray Justin McCray 6'2" | SF North Crowley | 2024 State TX was a true glue guy and workhorse player, bringing a high level of engagement and awareness on both ends of the court. McCray consistently anticipated the Lake Highlands’ plays, reading their offense, and effectively communicating with his team. Justin’s ability to call out everything he saw and predict what would happen often allowed him to blow up the play or set up a helpside teammate to make the play. The 6’2” forward provided constant productivity, setting screens and maintaining excellent spacing near the post. He showcased a high motor by crashing the boards and limiting Lake Highlands’ shot attempts. McCray played with a relentless pursuit of the ball, whether in his area or not, showing a willingness to sacrifice his body to gain possession. His defensive presence was also felt as he sprinted from the paint out to the perimeter to get steals in the passing lanes, showcasing an all-over-the-court playmaking ability.
