Part of an impactful Holy Cross Prep duo that served as the driving force for the offensive success this year’s group endured on their way to securing a spot in the NJSIAA Non-Public B state final, Joshua Swain Joshua Swain 6'5" | SG Holy Cross Prep | 2026 State NJ demonstrated an ability to consistently get to his spots off the bounce with noticeable poise and impressive body control. A lot of Swain’s strong individual scoring performances showcased a glaring combination of smooth and diverse shotmaking from different areas on the floor while also mixing in aggressive downhill drives attacking driving angles ultimately y displaying a strong and confident handle and the ability to get wherever he wanted on the floor, along with flashes of finesse as a finisher at the rim alongside defensive playmaking due in large part to his his lengthy wingspan coupled with his anticipation skills in the passing lanes. As the season wained, Swain showed legitimate longterm promise as a shooter, particularly with intriguing shooting mechanics and intangibles.

Despite going scoreless in the first half, Swain was arguably Holy Cross’ most impressive performer, getting to his spots with relative consistency and composure but simply struggling to get anything to fall. He turned it around during the Lancers’ second-half comeback effort, scoring 11 points with an enticing blend of shotmaking, downhill driving, and defensive playmaking. Swain was consistently looking to attack and showed impressive skill and pace to his handle, attacking effectively to either side and flashing some craft as a finisher at the rim. He has clear upside as a shooter with natural balance and consistency to his footwork. His length, activity, and wiry strength foundation made him an effective defensive presence and helped force a handful of Gill turnovers. Swain is on a clear upward trajectory in his development and could prove to be a steal at the small-college level in the long run as he sorts through heavy NJAC interest.

Joshua Swain Joshua Swain 6'5" | SG Holy Cross Prep | 2026 State NJ was a bigger guard who played team basketball and was also able to create for himself when the time called for it. He made solid passes in the half-court and I appreciated that he didn’t force anything and read the defenses to perfection. He had some nice defensive moments by using his height while also getting down to rebound on both the offensive and defensive end. He was also able to get a bucket with solid drives to the rim, pull up middies, stretch the floor from downtown, and hit shots off the dribble from said long range.
