Jonah was the most prolific player on Team 8’s roster, earning his way onto my overall Top Performers list. He got to the rim off the dribble often and was comfortable with adjusting his shot against taller defenders. I gave a lot of praise to his court vision this past weekend in my first write up but I’m not sure enough can be said about it. He has a keen ability for setting his teammates up for success by drawing the defense’s attention and opening up space for others. There was one game in particular during which he either scored, assisted, or contributed a hockey assist on nearly every point scored while he was in the game. To put it plainly, Team 8’s offense didn’t run efficiently without Jonah’s initiation.

It’s quite possible that Jonah had the highest IQ of any prospect at the KY Expo. He zipped several passes through traffic in pick-and-roll situations that caused the sidelines to react. His outlet passing accuracy also stood out after throwing several court-length dimes that landed in the perfect spot for his teammates to convert on. Jonah’s wizardry didn’t stop with his court vision. He got to the rim with ease and also caused problems with his ball pressure in the backcourt.

Jonah Massey Jonah Massey 6'0" | SG/PG Edmonson County | 2028 State KY will be the team’s leading returning scorer after averaging eight points per game last season. Massey is a combo guard who plays with good effort and moves well with or without the ball. He can create good shots for himself or his teammates from inside or outside the arc. He is reliable in most areas of the game, whether it’s shooting, ball handling or scoring. Just as dependable as he is on offense, Massey brings that same consistency on the defensive end.

Jonah left Grayson County and returned to Edmonson County. He started the summer by transferring from Edmonson to Grayson. Massey’s transfer made statewide news when Edmonson elected to forfeit their two regular season games against Grayson after the transfer. Now he’s back. I wonder if they will end up playing their regular season games?

Jonah brings a strong motor and consistent effort, showing the ability to score at multiple levels. He’s a reliable shooter from beyond the arc with a quick release, deep range, and effectiveness in catch-and-shoot situations, while also being able to knock down tough shots and get to his spots. He handles the ball well to get to the rim, creates his own shot, and sees the floor effectively, with a solid mid-range game to round out his scoring ability.

I left Sunday impressed with 2 aspects of Jonah’s game. First, he plays really hard. Hard enough that he left a lasting impression on me with his motor. Also, Massey proved to be a gifted shooter. Most of his damage done on the offensive end was with his three point shooting.

Massey shot the ball well from mid and deep range off the dribble. He was decisive at getting to his spots for open looks and made difficult shots over defenders with poise. He shot accurately from 3-point range consistently on Saturday and Sunday. Scoring 20+ on jump shots and free throws in 2 games, he earned his way as one of the top performers.
