Now, he’s off to a strong start in his senior season, impressing with his unselfish playmaking, skilled close-range scoring, and activity on the defensive end. What sets Johnston apart is that he is also an excellent student off the court and would have no issues in the step-up from an academic standpoint.

Johnston stood out as the Stars lead guard in Saturday’s second game. He started off the game strong with a made three in the right corner, but that was his only made field goal of the game. However, Abrams racked up 9 assists. Johnston’s skillset fits his team’s offense perfectly as he does a great job of limiting turnovers and putting his teammates in positions to be successful. He sees the floor well, changes pace to get past defenders, can make passes through tight windows to the corners, and dumps off to his bigs in the paint. Abrams is also a decent defender despite the size and picked up 3 steals.

Johnston had a nice game in the backcourt with a lot of the ball in his hands for Upward Stars Upstate in their win over Carolina Pressure . He started the game hot with back-to-back transition buckets on the first two offensive possessions of the game. He had lots of success in the pick-and-roll and pick-and-pop, showing off his vision and ability to navigate traffic with the ball in his hands. Johnston is scrappy on the defensive end and tallied a steal, a block, and several contested rebounds.
