For regional programs looking for a defensive minded, athletic guard who has the wingspan plus grit to match up with taller wings, look no further than Johnson. The non stop energy and athleticism of the senior once again was made apparent with the way he attacked the offensive glass and forced turnovers on the defensive end. He was credited with five steals in the contest, and scored a game high 19 points. The Edison Eagle finished his career with back to back 5A State Tournament appearances, and one of the most productive players in the class, each year.

Strong, physical and bouncy. Johnson made his presence felt on both ends of the court, all night. He was a key part in staying tall and using verticality to make life difficult on Booker T Washington’s usual stellar rim finishing. The senior also closed out the first half with an impressive chase down block in transition. While he hit enough from distance to keep the defense honest, it was Johnson consistently crashing the glass and slashing inside like a running back that powered his offensive production. An impressive aspect of his performance was his great conditioning, as in overtime he was still playing with fresh legs. As evident by a time he blew past the Hornets defense on an extended post up, and slipped by two defenders at the rim for an impressive score. The defensive instincts, athleticism and passion Johnson showed is a big reason why his Eagles are headed to Norman next week.

A game changer on the defensive end, Johnson is also an explosive finisher at the rim on offense for a Edison squad that reached the Class 5A State Tournament last season. With improved shooting and playmaking ability this season, the senior will be one of the most complete players in 5A. Especially as his tenacity combined with his athletic ability makes the 6 foot 2 guard play much bigger.

Johnson is a guy that last year was forced to play down low. This year because Edison has more size he can play his natural position and show what he can do from his natural position point guard. He showed throughout the scrimmage against Choctaw his ability to shoot the three-point show off the dribble and his ability to get his teammates involved. On defense, he did a great job of getting in the passing lane while he was guarding the basketball.

Another prospect that pops thanks to his athleticism, Johnson plays bigger than his size thanks to those gifts and the tenacity he brings to the game. Especially on the defensive end. He was a hunter off the ball, with quick hands that broke up sloppy passes or dribbles. While also being willing to front taller post players and give as good as he got when battling around the rim. The Edison Eagle looks his best on the offensive end as a slasher, but has a promising pull up in the mid-range.

The athletic and aggressive guard did his best to inject life into his team’s second half comeback attempt with his pedal to the metal play. He often flew end to end, and when driving on offense was a high point finish who is fearless with how he handles contact. The Edison guard even showed good form and rhythm when he pulled up for a tough mid-range make in the second half.

is a smooth guard with length, IQ, and some major bounce. When you think of guards that thrive playing above the rim Johnson should come to mind, no one is trying to jump with him. Jeremiah is always smooth and under control when attacking the basket and it allows him to have midrange game which is rare in this age of highshchool players, making him that much harder for defenses to figure out. Leading this Edison Eagles to a 5a State Tournament that ended quickly with a first round exit at the hands of Del City, is more then all the motivation Johnson would need to have a very promising summer with eyes set on another tourney appearance but this time to leave with some hardware.

was one of the first “new” names we put on our board when it was time to do this ranking update. The Edison standout has been one of the best players in Class 5A basketball this season and is a big reason why the Eagles are hosting a regional and have a legitimate claim to be a state championship contender. Why is Johnson so special and why can he help lead the Eagles back to the state tournament? He seems to perform at his best under the brightest lights. Johnson is leading the team in scoring but he doesn’t just have games where he fills up the stat sheet against inferior opponents. He does it against the toughest teams that the Eagles have faced this year. Fellow 5A contenders Memorial and Nathan Hale have both come up short on finding a way to slow Johnson down. He also produced and led the team in scoring against 6A’s undefeated Broken Arrow earlier in the season. Performances against the top teams in the state definitely get our attention.
