J’Cobi was providing a spark off the bench offensively for Mac Irvin Fire
in the two wins I watched. Against LVL on Saturday his team was behind in the first half, and Mathis provided the spark needed to get them back in the game. He closed out the first half with a pair of threes and another finish at the rim to give his team all the momentum at the break. J’Cobi comes into the game with a ton of confidence, and there’s no hesitation to shoot when he catches in space. I liked the way he came out ready to compete on the defensive end as well.
J’cobi had a monster performance against Mac Irvin Fire
15u on Saturday morning. Despite the loss, Mathis had his team in it until the very end, all while playing without subs and ending the game with just four players on the floor. He has limitless confidence offensively, able to pull up for deep threes, or got at the trees and finish at the rim. He brought a ton of energy to the floor, and was getting fired up after every bucket his team scored. Mac Irvin Fire
has a talented group of guards, and J’cobi was going back and forth with them all game long to make it one of the best games of the weekend.
Jcobi may have been the most dangerous player during the 3v3 portion of camp. With all of the space on the floor, he was in full attack mode, and defenders had a hard time moving their feet with his quick change of direction on the ball. He was attacking the rim hard, and as a smaller guard he did a great job of finishing on the opposite side so it was difficult for taller defenders to get a good contest on him. Mathis plays with a ton of confidence, and it’s easy to see how he averaged over 20 ppg as a freshman.
