Chad Graham | Prep Hoops Scout
With little to no excess in his game, Watson embraced his rough and rugged role for the Ducks. When guards threw him the ball in the post, he threw down tough finishes, never shying away from contact and often drawing the foul call. Watson punished teams who didn’t box him out by grabbing boards and extending possessions. When the other team had the ball, Watson was an enforcer in the paint. And while he typically anchored the middle of the Ducks defense, he displayed glimpses of scheme versatility with how he blitzed and hedged ball-screens.

After slow-cooking on JV as a sophomore, Watson started to pop out mid summer and is carrying that into the fall. In one sense, he’s a classic rim-running defender. He makes splash plays rolling to the rim for dunks, getting putbacks, and blocking shots. But there’s more to him than that, particularly on defense. When he’s doubling the ball-handler or brought into ball-screens, Watson gets super active with his hands. He regularly creates havoc with deflections or outright steals the ball and takes it coast-to-coast.
