Crozier League Hidden Gems: Wings and Forwards

The annual event took place across three sites this year and featured a number of under the radar prospects. Here are the wings and forwards who stood out:

Akbar-Lusk continually made positive contributions to the Cavaliers with his vertical athleticism. As a rim runner, he put pressure on the basket while rolling, which opened up space for others to drive/shoot, resulted in a field-goal make for him, or forced defenders to foul. But his great impact came on the glass. Akbar-Lusk pulled down numerous offensive rebounds for second-chance opportunities and crashed the boards on defense to limit his opponents' possessions.

Against Salesianum, Boanes made his presence felt all over the court. He was a magnet for the ball on defense, coming up with steals and rebounds on both ends of the floor. Boanes paced the Highlanders on offense too. He repeatedly got to the paint off the dribble and off the catch and he got to the free throw line, where he shot 9-for-10.

A smooth operator, Bushey came out firing from deep. He knocked down multiple threes versus Delcastle, including a pull-up to start the game. He balanced his floor-spacing with toughness inside. Bushey scored with his back to the basket out of the post and cut to the rim from the perimeter.

Besides the corner three he hit versus MOT Charter, Reed stabilized the Cougars with his blend of energy and skill inside the arc. The 6-5 Swiss army knife got up to contest shots in the paint and created havoc with his off-ball activity on defense. Then he would hustle down the floor in transition for efficient buckets. And, catching the ball at the second level on offense, Reed attacked with precision, using his strength and agility to get to the hoop in 1-2 dribbles.

Watson proved to be a tireless worker in the paint, especially against Chester. Defensively, he battled on the glass, in addition to hedging versus ball-screens out on the perimeter. He racked up the occasional block and steal in the process too. As scorer, Watson backed defenders down into the post for layups, but was even more effective on-the-go. He cut, flashed, and ran the lane on fastbreaks to chip in on the scoreboard.
