James Grose
About James
Expert Analysis
Devin Record | Prep Hoops Scout
James is a bucket getter, which is proven given that he scored his 2,000th point during this season. He’s a solid guard who has an electric deep shot and knows how to play to his strengths on the court. He controls the pace of the game well and does the little things each time he’s on the court. Grose is from a small school, but he’s still a big time player, proving it during the summers playing AAU.

Grose goes relatively under-appreciated in large because he plays at the 2B level. However, he set a number of records last season scoring and shooting the ball and has his Napavine team in position to make a run at a possible state title. He’s a pretty well-rounded scorer who shows enough strength, quickness, and smarts to be a highly efficient 3-level scorer and someone who can help create plays for others.

One of the leading scorers in the state, he averaged 28 points a game this season for Napavine. He is a great shooter, making over 100 threes on the season. Probably close to 120 and he made 43% of those. He has a step back that he often used to free himself from the defense that extends past the three point line. . He is long at 6’3 and can finish at the rim, including a couple dunks this season. He is a shooting guard but he has the ball handling skills to play either guard position. He has improved his speed and athletic ability each year, and has the ability to blow by the defense and finish. He can post up smaller guards and hits some tough mid-range shots. He scored over 40 points four times this season and set the single game and season scoring records for Napavine. He also went over 1,000 points in this his junior year. The number of threes he made has to be close to a record in any book for one season.

He is a walking bucket. He has had over 40 points four times this season. He averaged 27 and surpassed the 1,000 points mark earlier in the season. He also broke the school’s all time scoring record for career points last night. He is only a junior. When his team needs a bucket, he will likely deliver. He makes some tough shots, and when the defense cheats, he will find his mates for buckets. Clutch player who hit a game winner on a shot that not lot of players could make. He shoots it at a high percentage from three and can get buckets from anywhere. He even added a couple dunks this season which shows the leap he has taken each year to make himself a better player.

He went off vs Willapa Valley, hitting a school-record 10 threes on his way to another school-record 45 points on his way to 1000 points. I don’t know if he reached 1,000 but he is less than 10 away if not. He is only a junior. That’s a lot of buckets. He has been lights out in the majority of games this season. He finished 10-16 from three and also had a 9-11 game from three earlier in the season. He has grown into a great shooter and improved that area of his game each year since his first varsity action in the 8th grade.

The junior guard was on fire from three in the first half and carried it over to the 2nd half, finishing with 42 points on 16 of 35 shooting. He made 7 threes. About 6 of those misses came in the last minute when it was learned that he was nearing the school record for points. He fell two short after his last three ball was waved off at the final buzzer due to a traveling call. He showed why he is one of the premier scoring guards in 2B, cashing in from all over the court. He is a great shooter and he comes out firing with confidence. That led to 27 first-half points. He also made some nice moves on drives to the basket. He’ll be one of the top scorers for Napavine and all of 2B after getting 20 points a game last year. He also had a two-handed jam on the break with limited space.
