Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
Freeman is known to be Middlesex’s best player, but he still continues to impress me every time I watch him. Yesterday, he did an excellent job moving without the ball; he has a good understanding of how to use screens and whether to refuse them, slip them, or curl them, and he’s a super smart cutter. These off ball skills will allow him to seamlessly fit into the next level, especially with his ability to play on the ball as well, whether it be with a pick and roll or in isolation. He had a couple big buckets down the stretch and is able to score it from all three levels. Freeman should be a nice piece for Rollins College next season.

Freeman steadily improves every time I watch him play, and recently it seems like he’s stronger and sturdier on takes to the rim than ever before. Against St. Luke’s, he was unstoppable as a driver and got fouled time and time again because of his ability to get to the front of the rim for easy looks and his willingness to seek out contact against anyone. He can also beat defenses from the outside with both off the catch and off the dribble threes, and he can bully smaller defenders in the post. Freeman is committed to Rollins College, a D2 school, and he should continue to develop his game to a point where he can be a meaningful piece of that squad next year.

Most coaches and evaluators I had talked to pegged Freeman as a D3 guy before this AAU season started. But after a massive year with BCRI and big performances at the NEPSAC showcases and All Academic Camp, he’s now on the radar of scholarship schools (he got two division 2 offers within the past month). He can stroke it from outside but also attack closeouts and finish at the rim with some craft. He should be a key player for Middlesex School this coming season and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the offers continue to roll in for the 6-foot-5 wing.

Freeman, a major stock riser coming out of the NEPSAC Showcase, continued to impress with his ability to make good decisions with the ball in his hands and to score at multiple levels. A guard out of the Middlesex School in Massachusetts, he was one of the top scorers at the event, showing the ability to create his own shot in the half-court, knock down shots in catch and shoot situations, and to attack the basket off the bounce. He competed on the defensive end of the floor, knew where to be in rotations, and showed the ability to rebound in traffic and in space.

Freeman did it all for Middlesex School in a win against Proctor Academy on Saturday. The 6-foot-5 junior can score from all three levels and had his three-ball dropping in this one. Once the defense started to overplay him, he got to the paint where he showed off some nice feel and footwork to craft his way around big men for easy layups. He plays with really solid control and skill. He also defends a variety of guys as a result of his size and strength. Some scholarship schools will definitely be sniffing around, but Freeman could likely also play at the highest level D3 schools, where he would be an excellent fit.

Freeman, a standout at the Middlesex School, has been on a tear shooting the basketball this spring for BCRI. At 6’5″ with a physical frame, he has the ability to impact a game in a variety of ways. He makes good decisions with the basketball, shows an understanding of how to create space off the bounce, and can finish through contact at the rim. He does a nice job of running off screens and is really good at doing his work before the catch in shooting situations.
