I have been patiently holding on to my Ja’Cobi Nichols Ja’Cobi Nichols 6'5" | SF St. Mary | 2028 State KY stock for a couple of years now. Hopefully the big wing can ride the momentum of a strong season at St. Mary onto the EYCL circuit with Team Mookie. Nickols has all the tools to make a big impact this AAU season.

Nichols is a kid that I have had my eye on for a couple of seasons now but he didn’t play much as a Freshman at Madisonville last season. Heading into his Sophomore campaign at St. Mary, Ja’Cobi could be a breakout player if my hunch is correct. Nichols checks a ton of boxes as a prospect but he needs to turn his potential intro production as a Sophomore. I am betting that he will do just that. Nichols had a modest Freshman season for Madisonville and has transferred to St. Mary in Paducah this Spring. This was my first time I’ve been able to see Ja’Cobi in 9 months and he’s grown and started to fill out a little bit. He needs to continue developing his overall skills but there won’t be many prospects in the first region who can match Nichols’ combination of size and athleticism.

Nichols is another player that has grown and added some weight since the last time I’d seen him, earlier this year. Ja’Cobi was maybe the only player that didn’t seem bound and determined to score as many points as possible on Saturday. He was looking instead to rebound, block shots and play defense. That actually stood out in a camp where many were forcing offense (all camps feature forced offense). If Ja’Cobi continues growing, his prospect ceiling will be amongst the best in this class. If he stays at 6’4, Nichols will need to get comfortable as a wing. He has plenty of time, either way.
