A guard who I’ve been high on for a while now, Zapolnik has continued his rise as a senior with some big time performances for Saint Ignatius. Comfortable running the show or deferring to his Division I committed teammates, Zapolnik is a high feel point guard with some real ability off the bounce as a slasher and shooter. His impact on both ends of the court for one of the top teams in the state suggests to me that he’s a scholarship level talent. At the moment a handful of Division III schools are his only posted offers. I’ll be curious who makes a late push for Zapolnik as he’s one of my favorite available recruits in Ohio.

Zapolnik set the table beautifully for Saint Ignatius all game and his steady presence is a big reason why I’m so high on the Wildcats this season. While Zapolnik is a high-level distributor of the basketball and experienced, I also was impressed with his scoring ability on the ball with some confident takes to the rim. Zapolnik is establishing himself as a top priority for Division III schools across Ohio but I also think scholarship programs should give a hard look at him. He’ll play in plenty more big-time environments for these coaches to determine if he’s a fit for their program.

Saint Ignatius lost some talented seniors to graduation and a couple transfers left this off-season, but the Wildcats have a ton of talent coming through the pipeline and few prospects have waited for their opportunity like Zapolnik has. After playing a complimentary role off the bench as a Junior, Zapolnik was dynamite during the month of June in summer league and live period action. Big time games at Philly Live and Midwest Live showed what fans can expect from Zapolnik this winter. If you don’t know about Zapolnik yet, you’ll be well aware of his game before the playoffs come around.

Zapolnik is a guy who is waiting to breakout as a senior for a Saint Ignatius squad that should have state title aspirations. A quick guard who can get where he wants and hits his spots with ease with the ball in his hands, Zapolnik can really create for himself. A point guard who defends and sets the table for his teammates, old school coaches will love the way he plays the game. Recently announced an offer from Denison, look for scholarship programs to start sniffing around Zapolnik this winter. If those programs back off, expect the best of the best Division III schools in the region to fight for Zapolnik’s commitment in the spring.

A guard who keeps impressing me each time I watch him play, Zapolnik was impactful this weekend on an unbeaten Saint Ignatius squad. Super quick, Zapolnik can get by initial defenders and is fast in transition. His first step allows him to beat defenders to his spot and his ability to change speeds and directions is tough to stop. Impacting the game in a variety of ways by competing defensively, getting to the lane and kicking and knocking down floaters. At his size, Zapolnik won’t be able to finish at the rim past a shot blocker, so the floater is a really important shot for him to make consistently. A guard raising his stock with small college and scholarship interest.

An impressive weekend for TNBA ‘ last=”]-Select, winning their pool before losing in the platinum semifinals. Zapolnik was the engine to their success this weekend with a huge 3-point shooting display. Zapolnik was hitting step-backs, spot-ups and running off screens to fire from long distance. His athleticism was also a tier above the competition in the game I watched, with nobody on the opposing team being able to stay in front of him. Defensively I thought he used active hands to pressure ball handlers and was one of the more impactful guards I watched all weekend. Small college programs should check Zapolnik out over these next few months with TNBA ‘ last=”] Select or Saint Ignatius.
