Expert Analysis
Jay Anderson | Prep Hoops Scout
Sutherland is another sizeable big man in North Carolina’s 2024 class who’s still available with United Faith Christian Academy. He’s producing 9.4 PPG, 6.7 RPG and 1.7 BPG as they’re currently 21-6 on the season and he’s shooting 60 percent from the field. He’s a 6-foot-10 two-way presence who’s shown he can provide quite the anchor support in the painted area. Look for some DI programs to swoop in late in his recruitment.

Sutherland’s ability to defend the rim effectively, coupled with his mobility and consistency as a lob target, highlights his valuable skill set. Sutherland continues to remain an unsigned name in North Carolina’s 2024 class at United Faith Christian Academy. He’s a 6-foot-9 presence producing 7.9 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 1.7 BPG and 1.1 APG in the frontcourt this season. He’s a mobile presence who can operate inside and out with his ability to handle and make plays for others. He’s shown he can step out and shoot the ball more consistently this season as he’s shooting 40 percent from deep. He’s a prospect for DI and DII programs in the region to get eyes on soon given his size and pedigree around the rim.

Sutherland is an underrecruited presence in the United Faith Christian Academy frontcourt who continues to show his growth in the painted area. He’s posted 9.4 PPG, 5.8 RPG and 2.0 BPG as his squad is off to a 7-1 start in 2023-24. He’s racked up just one double-double so far but look for that number to grow as he anchors the painted area over the next few months.

I highlighted Sutherland in my preview article before the showcase, and he delivered, showcasing his immense rim protection talent as well as a developing perimeter game. He patrolled the paint with ease, swatting shots off the glass and showing good discipline on the ball to stay down and not give up cheap fouls in the name of trying to get a flashy block. He was working on his jumpshot during the games, and knocked down a couple jumpers and worked hard to get open. He’ll be a big piece for UFCA this senior year and should be a target for LM to MM coaches.

Sutherland continues to show his defensive growth/development at the power forward spot in NC’s 2024 class. He’s got a college-ready frame on the interior and beyond that was on full display all day long at this year’s Top 250 Expo. He’s a strong-framed forward who takes pride in owning the boards and painted area with his ability to alter shots. He won’t be easy to score on this season as a featured name in the United Faith Christian Academy rotation in 2023-24.

Sutherland is a sizeable name at 6-foot-9 who has continued to develop over the past few seasons at United Faith Christian Academy. He plays with a ton of energy on both ends of the floor, utilizing his length to alter shots and make his presence felt. Look for him to make a strong statement on Sunday at the Top 250 Expo with his ability to play on both ends of the floor.

Sutherland should be one of the best performers at the camp this weekend and should be on more coaches radars for their upcoming recruiting class. He’s a guy who plays extremely hard and has some impressive athleticism to boot. He protects the rim with authority on defense and is not someone who gets beat easily either on the perimeter or post. Offensively he’s a threat to the rim as a lob threat and a roller out of ball screens. He’s got good touch around the rim as well when he can’t viciously throw the ball down. He’s a D1 player for someone, it just remains to be seen where it will be.

, forward for United Faith Christian Academy, will be back in Charlotte in 2023-2024, with the pursuit of a state championship the only thing on his mind. The 6’9″ forwards’ break-out 2022-2023 ended seven points shy of taking home the title after a gut-wrenching 64-57 loss to the #2-seeded Northside Christian.

and United Faith Christian cemented themselves as Charlotte basketball royalty last season with a 31-2 overall record and #1 overall seed in the state playoffs. But if you asked anyone in that locker room, #10 especially, he’d tell you last season wasn’t a success. A success would have meant taking the title back to Charlotte. And that’s what the Falcons intend on doing this year with Sutherland leading the charge.
Sutherland’s presence on the defensive end sets him apart. He’s got the length and size of a modern-day big that makes him a problem in the post. With perhaps the longest wingspan in his class, Sutherland is well-equipped to make big-time plays underneath the rim and cash in his hard work defending down-low for easy fast break buckets. He blocks shots and pushes the ball out in the open court, putting his team in a position to score. Sutherland is disruptive down low, a nuisance to navigate, and his presence alone pressures opposing players to make bad decisions and turn ball over.
Sutherland’s size alone puts him in a prime position to score. In 2022-2023, he took on more of a defensive, rim-protecting role. I don’t blame him. That’s what his team needed. But, if United Faith Christian wants to get back to the title; and bring this next one back to Charlotte, Sutherland will need to take on more scoring duties while maintaining his dominant presence down low. Expect his touches to dramatically increase and much of this Falcon’s offense being ran for him, by him, from the high post. All signs point towards United Faith Christian competing for another state championship next season; expect

is really starting to come into his own in the United Faith Christian Academy rotation. He was quite the anchor on defense as UFCA finished 31-3 on the season and 8-0 in conference action, producing 6.0 ppg, 4.2 rpg and 2.1 bpg for the Falcons. He’s starting to figure out how to use his length to make an impact when he’s on the floor at 6-foot-9., He’ll be one to watch for Team CP3 on the EYBL scene this grassroots season.
