In addition to immediate on-court production, one of the key measures used in player rankings is collegiate potential and there’s no question Frye has a ton of the latter. So while the rising sophomore may have played JV last season at West Linn, it’s about what to come from the big man who has shown great signs of improvement this spring with Players Only and this summer with the West Linn varsity. Obviously the genetics are there (he’s the son of former Blazer Channing Frye) but Frye runs the floor, works hard on and off the court, and is continuing to develop offensively, looking better each time we’ve seen him play.

While he played on both the Players Only 16U and 15U squads, it was the latter where he got plenty of playing time – and made an impact as a result. While it could be argued his ability to rebound came as a result of towering over opponents at times, the fact is he has good hands and understands positioning well. The son of former NBA player Channing Frye continues to come along with his offensive game, but his ability to follow his own shot for putbacks was evident and he was definitely a factor as a shot-blocker on the defensive end.
