Yore put on an awesome scoring display, accounting for 40 of Kelso’s 60 points in an opening round win over Timberline on Saturday. He’s a strong kid and did a great job working in close to the rim, getting the angle on defenders and keeping contact until the last moment to get his shots off. In the first half, he made a living from the free throw line and in and had consistently poised attacks. After dropping 19 in the first half, he came back with another 21 in the second and incorporated more outside shots once the defense started sinking back and going under screens to stop his penetration. He paced Kelso all night long and managed to score 40 points without really forcing anything. He set up his drives well, was able to attack either way, had the strength to go all the way to the hoop and has a nice midrange shot to pullup and hit. With the win, Yore helped Kelso punch their ticket to State but will matchup with North Thurston Thursday to see who moves on to the bi-district championship game.

Hayden is a player who I watched this summer in Centralia. He is tough as nails and plays with a high energy style. He is a great shooter with plenty of range. More like an elite shooter. He has improved his strength and uses it to bully guards off the dribble. He can pull-up and hit the mid-range jumper or get to the rim. He was tough with this and got by the defense seemingly at will. He plays defense and dawgs opposing guards with ball pressure. A break-out year after already averaging 14 points per game last season is very likely. Prospect to watch if you want a tough guard. rn

Hayden played tough using some strong drives to the basket. He methodically broke down the defense at his own speed and showed good strength to finish at the basket. He’s also a deadly three point shooting guard with unlimited range. When he got going downhill he was great at finishing or drawing fouls. He has gotten stronger and quicker and that will help him to have a bigger season next year. He’s also capable of beating you with some mid-range jumpers.

Hayden is shooter who shows a consistent shooters pocket with range that extends beyond the three point line. He has a good pull-up jumper going to his left, which is natural for him. He showed the ability to get to the basket and makes good reads on when to use the pull-up jumper. Could use it more going to the right. Anticipates well on defense and jumps passing lanes for steals. As he gets stronger and more explosive, his shooting will benefit across the board, and it is already good. Capable of scoring in bunches with his shooting ability. He should be a stock riser next season with some off-season work on quickness and explosive moves. 3A GSHL 2nd team this season, he averaged 13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals per game.

Yore is a player that has good eyes on both sides of the floor. He reads passing lanes, can make those long outlets up the court, and spur action quickly. He’s a more than capable scorer with the ability to hit from outside and cut through defenses in the half-court. Most of the attention was on Senior leader and 3A GSHL MVP Michael Foust last season, but Yore will be one of a few Hilanders to keep an eye on in the upcoming season.
