Gio showed more versatility to his game than I had seen out of him before. Last spring/summer he impressed as a physical low-post presence who mixed strength with footwork to score at a high level on the block. This past weekend he showed he’s more than just a back-to-the-basket player. He had some nice high-low passes, and drained a couple of jumpers in a quarterfinals matchup against Minnesota Fury .

When Giovanni caught on the block, the possession was pretty much over from there. All game long he was catching on the block and just powering his way to the rim for two points. His combination of strength, balance, and touch off the glass allowed him to go-to-work on the block and finish with either hand inside. Isn’t the most athletic big but I really liked the effort he put in to run the floor rim to rim, looking to beat opposing bigs up the floor in transition. Helped lead his Bradley Elite 16u team to an opening round win.

Giovanni is a big body inside for Bradley Elite, and his combination of size and touch around the basket makes him tough to stop down low. If he catches on the block he has the strength to back his man down into deep position, or he can quickly spin baseline to pin his man on his hip before finishing at the rim. Isn’t the fastest getting up and down the floor, but is light on his feet on the block, allowing him to create good looks with his footwork. Strength allows him to finish through contact, and his effort on the offensive glass leads to some easy second chance buckets.
