Gavin Pendergast
About Gavin
Expert Analysis
Max Wagner | Prep Hoops Scout
It was a low scoring battle between SSP and Tartan, and Gavin provided a spark of offense down the stretch. At 6’4 he is able to use his size and handle to get into his own shots around the rim/mid-range levels, and was also a catch-and-shoot threat from beyond the arc. Takes his time when attacking the basket and with his size he’s comfortable changing directions to just work his way to the rim. Has a high release that allows him to easily get off a shot over smaller guards as well. Scored a game high 16 points in the win for the Packers.

Gavin will be stepping into a much bigger role in the South St. Paul program this winter, and showcased his versatile game on Saturday. Defensively he has good size at the guard spot, with active hands and quick instincts that allowed him to poke the ball free, block shots, and pounce on loose balls to pick up steals. I knew he could shoot it from outside, but he also impressed with some composed finishes in the open floor. Instead of trying to force his way through a defender to the basket, he took what the defense gave him and was finishing with touch over the top of his man.
