About Eli
Expert Analysis
Duvalier Johnson | Prep Hoops Scout
The returning leading scorer in all of 3A is heading into his senior year with a chip on his shoulder and mountain-high expectations. Eli has excellent size at 6’6 and a killer mentality. He wants to score, and we saw that as he put up 24.6 points a game. He erupted with some 30+ point games and put up double figures in every game. As if those points weren’t enough, he also managed to put up 10.5 rebounds a game and 3 assists to go along with it. He’s not under the radar in the sense of being a solid player, and we’ve seen him stand out in the club scene in the past, but not a ton of people know who he is. He should have another monster season. Big year for him and a standout that people should get more eyes on.

has been on a tear over the past couple of seasons, averaging 20.4 PPG in his sophomore year and stepping up big time in his junior year, putting up an electric 24.6 PPG. Consistency is a massive factor in separating the good players from the great, and Guzman has proved just that. In addition to his gargantuan scoring outbursts, Guzman also solidified himself as one of the best rebounding forwards in the box state, tacking on 10.5 RPG this season. Defensively, Guzman makes his presence felt, switching screens on the fly and continuously communicating with his teammates.

Although he’s just a junior, Eli is a few games away from reaching the 1,000 points scored mark. He’s putting up 26.7 points a game, and with that mark, that would get him there right at the end of league play. He’s been a constant force for Rye in his three seasons, and he’s only getting better. He’s a do-it-all combo guard who’s also the team’s best rebounder. He’s shooting over 40% beyond the arc, he finishes well around the basket, and he also extends defenses with his play. He hasn’t finished in single digits since his freshman season and has been a force.

is the ultimate space creator you need on your starting lineup. The 6’5 offensive juggernaut can attack the rim and get creative around the mid-range. Defensively, he always stays in between passing lanes, ready to jump the gun and get out in transition. Don’t underestimate his three-ball either, as Guzman is effective with catch-and-shoot scenarios.

Guzman’s lofty production over at Rye has made him an intriguing name to follow given the size at his position. A talented off the dribble shotmaker within the mid-range, he brings three level scoring upside, a particularly unique trait for an athlete with his measurables at this stage. Few names in the state, let alone the class have put up bigger numbers even with him being at a smaller school.

Guzman has been on a tear all season, producing lofty scoring totals of 23.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Bringing good size at roughly 6’5, he is comfortable scoring at all three levels, particularly formidable at the 3A level. Comfortable shooting over contests, his size advantage makes him particularly dangerous in the mid-range or on attempts around the rim. He has repeatedly proven himself as an ideal primary option at this level, among the best small school names within the state.
