Caldwell shot the three ball with efficiency and deep range accuracy throughout the course of East Orange’s first summer league action of the month. Having that impact translate to the defensive end of the floor, Caldwell was also extremely disruptive defensively, using his quick hands and anticipation skills to throw ball handlers off the pace and get in the passing lanes to turn defensive stops into easy offense on the other end in transition.

Part of a confident, fiery, and overall deep backcourt that was the catalyst to a NJSIAA North Jersey Group 4, Section 1 title, Elijah Caldwell Elijah Caldwell 5'6" | PG East Orange | 2027 State NJ emerged as valuable and reliable contributor, stepping up wherever necessary and contributing wherever need be— converting on a number of opportunistic looks from three point range at a decent rate, handling some of the ball handling responsibilities and setting the table from the point guard position and taking care of the ball, helping fuel East Orange’s offense in the open floor pushing the tempo in transition while also stringing together strong moments of some of his creativity off the bounce, capable of attacking the basket and finishing with a crafty touch around the basket. A relentless on ball defender, Caldwell hung his hat all season on applying constant ball pressure and bringing high energy and effort— excelling at forcing turnovers and capitalizing on them, turning defensive plays into easy transition baskets.

Caldwell excelled as a perimeter scorer, converting on a number of opportunistic looks from three point range, highlighting his ability to stretch the defense with his compact shooting touch from the outside. A pest on the defensive end of the floor who constantly pressures the ball and plays with great intensity as an on ball defender, Caldwell also shined in his ability to turn opposing ball handlers over and convert on easy looks at the basket in transition off defensive pressure.

Operating as the primary ball handler for East Orange’s offense on the day, Elijah Caldwell Elijah Caldwell 5'6" | PG East Orange | 2027 State NJ did an excellent job of playing with good poise and demonstrating a strong ability to take care of the ball. East Orange was able to generate a lot of offense in the open floor and Caldwell had a few strong finishes through contact in transition. Caldwell also flashed his ability to knock down outside shots off the catch with some of the time he spent off the ball.

Stepping into a larger role offensively on the day due to some injuries on the roster, Elijah Caldwell Elijah Caldwell 5'6" | PG East Orange | 2027 State NJ stepped up and delivered an impressive performance. Caldwell shined knocking down shots off the catch and even off the bounce out on the perimeter and the mid range area. Caldwell even showed flashes of his creativity off the bounce, getting to the rim a couple of times off the dribble and finishing with a little bit of craftiness around the basket.

Caldwell is primed to have a monster junior campaign as he should get more looks within the offense. The 5’6 guard is a blur in the open floor as he uses his speed to blow by his defender and finishes nicely around the basket. Caldwell can also score in the mid-range and sets his feet before he shoots. He is a tough on-ball defender and rarely forces shots in the half court. Caldwell is an electric guard prospect who should make plays at both ends of the floor throughout the season.

A tough and gritty small guard, Elijah Caldwell Elijah Caldwell 5'6" | PG East Orange | 2027 State NJ excelled in the ways he was effective both as a floor general while also still being just as effective off the ball. A reliable decision maker on the ball, Caldwell continued to demonstrate he’s capable of running an offense and setting the table for his teammates. Over the course of the May live period, Caldwell also showcased his improving ability as a shooter off the ball. Defensively, Caldwell was much of himself— being disruptive at the POA and forcing opposing ball handlers into turnovers.
