This was my second time seeing Elias Losey Elias Losey 6'0" | PG/SG Columbia Central | 2028 MI this AAU season and he impressed once again. He attacks the basket with a purpose and utilizes crafty maneuvers to side step defenders to get there. He also dishes out assists to his shooters in the corners and on the wings regularly. Making him a high impact player on the offensive end. He also gets after it on defense, and can poke the ball away if his matchup isn’t careful. Overall, he’s a solid 2-way guard that makes plays and stays locked in.

Losey was one of two back court guards from the Michigan Jawhawks 16U team that caught my attention during Saturday’s festivities. The 6’0 guard from Columbia Central showed a well rounded offensive package that included 3 level scoring abilities. After a quieter first half during the team’s mid afternoon game, the second half was a different story as he went on a scoring tear. Curled off screens for mid range jumpers, confident in catch and shoot opportunities from 3’s, created his own shot going into 8 – 15 footers off the bounce, and continued to attack the basket finishing off the dribble or drawing fouls. Losey also will rebound from the guard spot and converted on multiple second chance opportunities while also securing strong defensive rebounds and then pushing for break points. A productive 2-way guard that will bring toughness and competitiveness to the floor.

We mentioned Losey and his hot shooting when we named him a Great Lakes Closer 17u All-Star. He was playing up an age group and still managed to be electrifying. Losey showed that he could be a consistent and dangerous spot up shooter. His most impressive triple though, was when he used a pass fake, the defender bit on it, and he fired up the 3 pointer.

Losey had a huge Saturday. He was a knock down shooter for the Michigan Jayhawks. He didn’t just hit triples; he hit BIG, momentum-changing triples. Losey looked cool, calm, and confident every time he put up a 3. He showed very deep range. We’re talking a volleyball line type range, maybe even a step behind it. Losey wasn’t in attendance on Sunday, so you know that Saturday’s performance had to be special if he’s sitting here as a Great Lakes Closer All-Star.

Elias is the lifeblood of his team’s offense. He provides steady ball handling and takes care of the basketball, keeping turnovers to a minimum. Losey proved to be a reliable shot creator for both himself and his teammates, generating offense in a variety of ways. His high motor allows him to maintain that production efficiently and effectively throughout the game.

I had the chance to watch Elias play twice this weekend, and this is the kind of kid who always finds a way to impact the game on both sides of the floor.

Everything offensively seems to run through Elias. He’s very confident with the ball in his hands, and has the ability to distribute the ball well. But even when he’s not dishing out assists, he has a ferocious midrange jumper-and has the ability to consistently knock down shots in the paint or from behind the arc.

On defense, he always has a hand in his opponent’s face, and has great hustle when transitioning after a made basket.

You can also tell that he’s a natural leader. His Michigan Jayhawks team really seems to go to him for guidance, and in overtime of his first game of the weekend-Elias is the one who knocked down the eventual game-winning shot.

His team hadn’t won a game over their last two tournaments, but finished 3-and-1 at this year’s Rumble in the Rapids.

Elias featured heavily in the best game of the night, when his Jayhawk team beat the Michigan Tar Heels 69-67 in overtime.

Elias showed off a pair of nice midrange jumpers in the game’s opening minutes, and that was only a preview of what was to come. Losey barely left the floor for the game’s two halves and overtime; showing excellent court vision and supreme ball-distribution.

Losey is a gritty defender; regularly tasked with guarding the opposing team’s best player. And he never shies away from the challenge; keeping a hand in the face of the opposition-and chasing down rebounds.

Losey is very cool under pressure. Trailing by one point in overtime, he grabbed an offensive rebound, shook off a defender, and nailed a leaning floater to deliver his team the eventual win.

Losey said afterwards that it was a win his team badly needed. The Jayhawks had gone winless in their last two tournaments, losing 8 games in a row before Losey’s heroics handed them a victory to start the weekend.
