Canton McKinley are the preseason favorites to win the federal league thanks to their depth of experience, size and scoring talent. Webster is a combination of those three skills as he’s a strong wing forward who makes an impact on both ends of the court. Webster can attack from the free throw line area where he can dribble using both hands, liking the spin move back to the left or knock down the mid-range jumper. For Webster, limiting turnovers will be key as the Federal League is a grind it out halfcourt league. I think that style of play will help Webster’s feel improve.
Webster is a forward that is one of the strongest and quickest finishes at the rim. He explodes and finishes toward the rim, and finishes really well through contact. He finishes around the rim exactly like any coach would teach it. He is a great vertical and explosive athlete. He is a strong player who is always in balance. He is a good rebounder and rim protector as well.
We just mentioned Webster as a standout for All Ohio Red
on the 16 U EYBL circuit as his efficiency in the paint was quite notable. While I don’t want to repeat what I said here, Webster still deserves the love shown as a rankings riser thanks in large part to his performance last weekend in Memphis.
Playing for All Ohio Red
, Webster did a nice job of getting downhill off the wing and being efficient in the paint. A hard left hand driver, Webster would look to either attack with his left or go right and spin back to his left to finish at the rim. I was impressed by his efficiency and production as a scorer, looking comfortable in the paint. Based on the jump I’ve seen him make this summer, Webster could be one of the best players in the federal league next season as a junior.
I like Webster a lot and if you want to play a tough, physical, fast-paced brand of basketball Webster is the player you want. He is an elite wing defender who has the athleticism and strength to guard all positions on the floor. He can speed you up and shut down what you want to do on offense. He does a great job of beating you to the spot. He is a smooth athlete on offense and does not force on offense. He gets to the rim when the lanes open up.
The Pups had a great postseason push to the regional title game and their physicality and defensive intensity were key factors in that push. Webster is a key part of that success as Webster can do a variety of things on both ends of the court. With a strong frame and good length, Webster can play tough on the interior or switch onto guards on the perimeter. In the one game I caught of Canton McKinley this season Webster had a couple in rhythm lefty mid-range shots and was aggressive attacking the rim. Expect Webster’s role to continue to grow during his junior season.
