A three-year varsity player and 1,000-point career scorer, Kortz seems to come up with the biggest baskets and most important rebounds for Freedom, which sits alone on top of the North Eastern Conference standings. Also a standout quarterback on the football field, Kortz is averaging 19.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting 51 percent from the field, 75 percent from the foul line and 34 percent from outside the arc. His toughness, tenacity on defense and senior leadership are huge assets for the Irish.

The star quarterback on Freedom’s outstanding football team last fall, Kortz has carried over his impressive play to the basketball court. The steady combination guard is adept at playing with balance, playing off two feet, making athletic plays at the rim. He also can score from deep and from the mid range for coach Andrew Gibbons’ squad. Kortz finished with 17 points in the 71-57 victory over Catholic Memorial, and then had 16 points in a loss to Slinger.
