If there was a slasher of the weekend out of all of the teams or prospects I saw, the award would be presented to Mr. Simmons. There wasn’t much that a defender could do to stay in front of him. The way he can change speeds on his dribble and then manipulate the defender was at another level. I had not seen him play since MLK tournament time in January and he was really smooth off the bounce then but that skill has now jumped to another mode. Used shiftiness, hesitations, in-and-outs, and frequent craftiness to get to cup and finish or earn a chance at the stripe. Distributes effectively as well with timely pitch a heads or drive and kick passes. An engine that kept on running. Would be wise to take stock now.

Statement maker early getting to the cup at will. Had 7 of team’s 9 in first 3 minutes of game. Can score it from 3 levels and is a challenge to contain in front with poised handling ability. Plays well with other smart guard and has the physical demeanor to provide positives defensively as well.

Simmons had a big day as the Joliet Catholic 6’1” 2027 combo guard opened eyes of scouts with his big time transition ability playing above the rim. Also shot it well from three both off the catch and creating on his own.

A quick, crafty point guard who loves to break off defenders and share the rock. Like Ablin, Simmons showed excellent distribution skills this morning. Consistently finding open guys in the corner and in transition. Best assist came at the end of the first half when he was swarmed by two defenders. Out dribbled both of them for an easy assist to a guy down low. I’d say at least 12 potential assists throughout the game. Came milliseconds away from a buzzer-beating bucket.
