Spencer was one of the more well-rounded players I saw today. He was effective as a catch-and-shoot threat from downtown—he knows how to move without the ball and relocate for easy shots—but he can also run pick and roll and is a good passer. He consistently got past his defender before making simple, on-time and on-target passes to teammates for easy threes or backdoor cuts. The lefty also showed off the ability to finish in transition—I was especially impressed with a right handed finish he had through tons of contact. Spencer is going to be a big time recruit in New England circles after today’s performance and could crack the scholarship ranks if he keeps improving and continuing to fill out physically. Awesome player.

Spencer showed great anticipation with his reach-ins, timing his swipes at the dribble while effectively taking away his opponent’s dominant hand. Offensively, Dean Spencer Dean Spencer 6'3" | CG Seven Lakes | 2027 State TX displayed a strong feel for the game. Spencer never seemed rushed, operating with patience and composure while consistently knowing what he wanted to do with the ball, almost always making the right read or decision. He also showed the ability to score off the bounce with a smooth jumper off the dribble that allowed him to rise comfortably into his shot.

A true coast-to-coast threat, Dean Spencer Dean Spencer 6'3" | CG Seven Lakes | 2027 State TX wasted no time pushing the ball after securing defensive rebounds, turning stops into scoring opportunities. Spencer was a dangerous facilitator in transition, advancing the ball early and finding teammates streaking ahead. His creative ball control stood out, delivering one-handed passes, wraparounds, and touch dimes while understanding pace and tempo. Spencer manipulated defenders with his eyes and body, looking off help defenders and threading the ball through tight windows on drop-offs and skip passes.

Dean made most of his impact in the Seven Lake’s game making backdoor cuts and finishing with authority at the basket. Spencer has good off the dribble speed and knows how to move well off the ball and be in the right spot at critical times to get buckets for the Spartans. His teammates always know that they can find him open for a lob to the rim, a perimeter jumper, or somewhere he will get fouled and cash in at the free throw line. His perimeter defensive intensity was unmatched, and this resulted in several steals leading to easy transition opportunities to extend the lead. One of the 2027’s who has made his way onto my radar, I will be looking for Dean to continue his high momentum play this season as the Spartans look to stay undefeated as district continues on.

His ability to freeze defenders with his composed yet aggressive approach forced them into tough decisions, allowing him to explode past them with a smooth drive to the rim. Spencer’s poise and patience with the ball in his hands made him highly effective at taking advantage of defensive overplays, consistently finding ways to create scoring opportunities.

Whether it’s positioning himself correctly on defense, diving for loose balls, or making timely passes to set up scoring opportunities, Spencer’s awareness on both ends of the floor ensures that he’s always in the right place at the right time. His unselfish play and ability to make the right reads further elevate his teammates, adding value through the little things that often go unnoticed.
