I really enjoyed watching Thompson at the Prep Hoops Expo back in the fall. He’s one of the key engines offensively for a Canton McKinley squad that made our top 10 preseason rankings in OHSAA Division I. While I know Thompson can score the basketball, if he can make a defensive impact on a nightly basis he could rise up our rankings this winter with plenty of marquee games on the Pups schedule.

Thompson had a really nice showing as a downhill attacker off the dribble, making some tough finishes off two feet in the paint. Thompson plays with no fear in his eyes and wants to go at the top players on the other team. Impressed with his scoring and ball handling ability against a top team, Thompson did force the issue a couple times but you’ll take that with how often he’s successful by being aggressive as an attacker. Canton McKinley has a lot of talent on their roster and they looked impressive even without Jamar Keyes Jr Jamar Keyes Jr 6'7" | PF Canton Mckinley | 2027 State OH who should provide an extra offensive punch with good size.

One of the more talented lead guards at the showcase, Thompson did a nice job of balancing scoring and setting the table for his team. Early in the day Thompson had a couple impressive drive and kicks to shooters and was making quick outlet decisions. Later in the day, Thompson looked for his own offense and scored off the dribble with layup and floater finishes. I was also impressed with the perimeter shooting ability Thompson showed with a handful of corner 3-pointers despite playing on the ball for a majority of the day. Expect Thompson to make some noise in a competitive Federal League this winter.
