About Darryn
Expert Analysis
Eric Wallace | Prep Hoops Scout
Johnson is a quick, attacking lefty lead guard who averaged 17 points per game during his senior season. He gets into the paint with ease, continues to improve as a perimeter shooter, and makes an impact on the defensive end with his activity and toughness. College coaches looking to add backcourt depth to round out their 2026 recruiting class should take a close look.

on Day Two. He is a lefty Point Guard who helped impact winning with his play on both ends of the floor. Johnson displayed good hands, a knack for defensive rebounding, creative finishing at the rim, and an extra gear of speed in the open floor. However, it was Darryn’s passing ability that impressed me the most. He had 8 assists in the win over Upward Columbia, finding shooters on drives, setting up bigs for easy lays, and making the extra pass on the perimeter. Johnson had 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals to go with the stellar playmaking.

Johnson is a smaller point guard with a physical frame that checks in at 104th on our rankings this summer update. Shifty and quick, he can attack space and look to make plays for everyone around him. Able to score it a little bit too from multiple spots on the floor. Has had a good summer for Top Shot Basketball East, and should see that continue this July.

Johnson is an intriguing point guard prospect to keep an eye on with Top Shot Basketball East. He knows how to push the pace and create in the open space in spurts to lead the way offensively. Defensively, he’s a pest who turns turnovers into fastbreak opportunities in a hurry. As he learns to control things with his ability to get to the paint and make plays for others, he’s a floor general in the 2026 class with a bright future ahead of him.

Johnson is another shifty presence in the 2026 class at the point guard spot who’s gaining traction in the state of North Carolina. He’s a prospect out of Durham School for the Arts who put up 14.7 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 3.0 APG and 2.3 SPG as a sophomore in 2023-24. He’s shown he’s ready to lead Top Shot Basketball East Jackson backcourt on the independent grassroots scene.
