Gahanna is known for its guard play and Whitfield is set to get the keys to the offense next season after showing impressive flashes this winter. Another multi-sport athlete, Whitfield stars for the Gahanna basketball and baseball team. I caught him at the Holiday Hoopla this season and was impressed with his perimeter shooting ability and touch on jumpers, floaters and layups. I’ll be curious to see which sport Whitfield ends up prioritizing to play at the college level.

Whitfield is a nice point guard because he has all the things you want in a point guard. He has a tight handle on the ball that plays under control and with a great pace. He is a nice athlete who gets by defenders. He has great balance on the court. He can score the ball as effectively as he can pass it. He is a high IQ player who knows what to always do on the court even on the defensive end he has great instincts.

Gahanna made quick work of Holy Name and got a dominant victory in the afternoon on Sunday. Whitfield had a solid game as the undersized guard had some tough drives and finishes to the rim in the half-court and in transition. The euro-step was a favorite move for Whitfield and he used that to create space to finish at the rim. Whitfield also knocked down a pair of corner 3-pointers as Gahanna cruised to a win over an out of area opponent.
