Having resumed his regular ball handling responsibilities as their primary ball handler with his ability to orchestrate the offense and consistently locate open teammates within half court sets while showcasing an increased comfort as Cherry Hill East’s primary scorer and filling some of the offensive void, creating his own offense off the bounce from different areas on the floor,

delivered a stellar individual season that saw him step up as the driving force for this offense the entirety of the season. He maintained an effective and smart balance between playmaking and scoring, keeping defenses on edge by capitalizing on whatever opportunities the defense presented— utilizing his strong and confident handle with his quick first step to consistently get into the paint, finishing with soft touch and excellent body control or using his sound court vision and passing feel to set up his teammates.

Leading the way for the top seed in SJ Group 4, Abreu has been a catalyst all season long, already matching his scoring production from a year ago while taking huge steps forward in the rest of his game. Abreu has had to step up in a big way down the stretch with East’s leading scorer out for the year due to injury and has managed to keep things afloat with his crafty play off the dribble. He has a shifty handle with a quick first step to generate paint touches with consistency, where he can either finish with impressive dexterity or showcase his vision as a playmaker for others. He’s a ballhawk defensively who loves to get out and run in transition. Abreu tracks as a scholarship-level talent with a chance to boost his stock significantly if he can show growth as a perimeter shooter.

Abreu had a strong summer and is looking to carry over that momentum into the season. He has a quick first step, which he uses to blow by his defender and finishes in a variety of ways around the rim. Abreu can also score in the mid-range and pushes the pace nicely in transition. He can also play off the ball and makes it tough for his man to get to his spot on the floor. Abreu is a speedy guard prospect who should make plays at both ends of the floor throughout the course of the season.

Part of a three-headed backcourt monster that has Cherry Hill East looking like an early state contender in Group 4, Abreu could be the key toward the Cougars reaching their ultimate upside. A dynamic dribble-drive attacker with as slick a handle as you’ll see in South Jersey, Abreu was impossible to keep out of the paint on Thursday en route to a number of swift finishes at the cup. He knocked down a 3 to keep the defense honest and showed the ability to be an effective pest on the defensive end. Abreu has evident upside to tap into as he improves his ball security and learns to manage a game, both of which will be key developments over the course of East’s season.
