Expert Analysis
Michael Schneiderman | Prep Hoops Scout
Takes on a lot of attention offensively as team’s main facilitator and scorer. Defensively was active in the passing lane anticipating and getting his hands in the lane multiple times causing deflections. Dragged the defender out on the dribble to widen the floor and then make his move. Was successful on a couple combo move sequences to get to the cup and finish in traffic. Saw the floor well with a give and go in the ½ court setting and a half court pass threading the needle for another dime. Had a game high 20 and will try to lead team to their 4th straight tournament championship tomorrow.

A floor general who took on full length court pressure with poise and control changing speeds while keeping on the ball defender off balance. Can dribble into his shot from long range with a really high rise and a pure release. Has the green light as team’s main scorer but also made smart reads sharing it effectively in the ½ court dribble drive action or in transition to fill up the assist department. Eyes are peeled to see gaps when handling. Remained vital on the glass with an energetic drive and will. Highlights consisted of a cool step back 3 off the bounce, a cross over into a reverse soft touch lay in, and splitting defenders going into more traffic to convert. Continued team’s run picking off a pass and finishing with a 2-hand slam off 2 feet for an explanation point to gut out a win.

What immediately stood out with Newton was the elevation on his shot—it’s on another level! His form is clean and smooth, making him a consistent threat from beyond the arc, where he knocked down threes in bunches. Newton also demonstrated versatility, putting the ball on the floor, attacking the paint, and making smart passes. Defensively, he brought plenty of energy, and his offensive streaks only fueled his intensity. Newton is definitely a junior to keep an eye on as he continues to develop.
