Even though the final score was a little lopsided, Merrillville kept making it a fight vs Northridge and a big part of that was due to the play of 2028 point guard

. Finishing with a team-high 23 points, Jones was super dynamic on the ball for the Pirates. It felt like he kept making big play after big play for his team using his elite speed on the ball to get in the lane and create finishes around the rim. Jones stepped up with Merrillville needed him the most in this game.

Merrillville High School has a loaded backcourt in the Class of 2028. Jones really impressed us on Sunday at the Prep hoops Indiana Sophomore ID Camp. It was his outside shooting ability that really captured our attention first as he hit a pull-up three-point shot on the right wing and then a catch-and-shoot three-point shot on the left wing. Jones also jumped a passing lane and went the length of the floor for a layup in 5-on-5 play. His consistent playmaking and shot-creation ability definitely was intriguing.

Jones attended our Freshman Showcase last season and now we will get a chance to gauge his growth and improvement as a player at our Sophomore ID Camp coming up in early September. The 5’10” playmaking guard from Merrillville High School is a quick-twitch driver with good ball handling skills and the ability to make crisp passes from a live dribble while attacking the paint.

A smooth guard that can slow you down or speed you up with the ball in his hands. Changes speeds with the rock really well. Had a reverse layup in traffic over a couple 6’4’s and O boarded for a couple put backs against that size as well. Made a tough pull up stopping on a dime from mid range that he made look easy. Made another drive with a spin move and then spray out for a 3 assist. Keeps the defense on their toes. Hit a big 3 to keep team in it with 30 seconds left. A true gamer.

We had several young prospects from Merrillville High School come down to the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase and it appears that Coach Bo Patton will be reloading in the coming years. Jones was dynamic with the ball in his hands and did a great job of finishing against size at the end of his drives. He also knocked down a three-point shot during 5-on-5 action. Skilled, smaller guard that can really play.
