If I had to use one word to describe O’Neil’s performance on Friday night, I’d say opportunistic. O’Neil seemed to just find points for the Hawks whether it was being open for time and space 3-pointers, scoring off steals or plays where the South defense was in rotation and he made himself available near the basket. An efficient scoring game, O’Neil was crucial for the Hawks on Friday night.

O’Neil had a big scoring game for Bishop Hartley, who seemed in control for a majority of the game. O’Neil had multiple pickpocket steals that led to breakaway layups for either himself of one of his teammates. A score first off guard, O’Neil is looking to drive to score at the rim. To end the third quarter O’Neil had a confident baseline drive and score. Small college programs looking to add a confident scorer to their guard rotation should take a look at O’Neil.

O’Neil is playing with a different level of confidence this year and has showcased his game in a big way. He is stepping into the main scorer role for Hartley. He has the green light and the confidence to be that type of scorer. He is a good-sized guard with a strong build. He has a great midrange one or two dribble pull-up game. He can get all the rack when the lane opens up, but he doesn’t force anything at the rim. He is also really good off the dribble from three-point land as well. He has a smooth and quick release. He elevates good on pull-ups. He is having his best year yet as a senior.

O’Neil was pouring it in throughout the weekend at The Stage. He averaged 21 points per game for NOVA Village 17u-2 on their way to a perfect 4-0 weekend. The 6’2″ guard is shifty with the ball in his hands, comfortable playing in isolation, and consistently scored at the end of his drives. Whether he is making catch-and-shoot 3’s off of the ball or creating his own shot as a primary ball handler, O’Neil certainly showcased his scoring chops while contributing to winning.

A player who caught our eye at the midwest fall league and our expo showcase, O’Neil had his breakout performance in a blowout win over Pickerington Central to open up his Junior season. On a Bishop Hartley squad that swarms the ball on defense, O’Neil fits in well with his on ball defense and ability to make shots from the perimeter. An under the radar name in central Ohio who is starting to break out.

O’Neil played with a ton of aggressiveness on both ends of the court on Saturday. A wing guard with a good frame and a quick first step, O’Neil was attacking closeouts and getting to the rim. With the strength to play through contact, O’Neil also had a couple and-1 layups at the rim. Bishop Hartley has the star power to contend for a state title, they’ll need guys like O’Neal to step up if they want to make it further than last season in the playoffs.
