Cal had a big game when I was watching on Friday night, and it’s safe to say he played a key role the remainder of the weekend as Northstar Titans advanced all the way to the 17u semi-finals. Defensively he was all over the floor coming up with steals, and showed great instincts and quick reaction time to jump passes and get out in transition for easy finishes. In the half-court he’s a lights out shooter whose range extends to well beyond the high school three point line. Defenders are forced to guard him well beyond the arc as his quick release allows him to get off shots in a limited amount of space.

Cal’s game is so smooth and he is fun to watch when creating off the dribble. He can make some super tough finishes around the basket at full speed, with some different same hand, same foot layups. He can hit on looks from the perimeter off the dribble, finding it very easy to create separation for his shot. Spencer is also a great passer, making accurate kick out passes, and pushing the tempo in transition.

came up with some big plays in a Sunday afternoon win for the
Northstar Titans
. The 5’10 guard is known for his quick release from three, and that certainly showed throughout the game as Cal drained a number of shots from beyond the arc. Defenders were trying to chase him off the ball all game long, but he still found ways to get into pockets of space to catch and shoot. He also impressed as a finisher in this game. Cal was able to get defenders in the air with a shot fake before attacking the basket and finishing with touch high off the glass to avoid shot blockers. With under two minutes to play Cal connected on a three and a tough finish inside to put his team ahead.

Similar to Brady McPeek, Cal is a quick guard who’s constantly moving off the ball, and has such a quick release to get his shot off before defenders can close him down. Northstar Titans was matching up with teams loaded with D1 prospects throughout the weekend, but Cal still found ways to get into space and put points on the board. It doesn’t take long for teams to figure out he’s a shooter, and Cal did a nice job of adjusting by getting defenders in the air with a shot-fake, and then penetrating to create openings for his teammates.
