. He’s the kind of kid that’s just really good at everything. Backus was too athletic and too powerful on the glass at the Michigan State Tournament. There was just no denying him. He turned heads with his versatile defense as well.

He also seems to have the mental strength and toughness needed and an understanding of what it takes to be the best version of himself on the court. That can be a difficult trait to find. Backus and his heights and frame fit the modern game well. It allows him to play and defend multiple positions with success.

Welcome to positionless basketball. Throw a dart at a position and Backus could probably play it, or at the very least, learn to play it. What’s all this leading to? It’s leading me to saying that he has an elite mental game and is a tremendously versatile athlete. It looks like Backus will end up being recruited in multiple sports.

Backus is one of the most exciting all around athletes entering high school this year in the state of Michigan. His feet and his balance are incredibly impressive. Backus almost glides on the basketball court and has tremendous body control. He could be an instant impact freshman.
