Berve’s game has a lot of the little things I look for when looking closely at a young point guard. He communicates with his teammates and is very vocal, he navigates screens, stays attached defensively and isn’t afraid to switch onto a different matchup. I like those things. Offensively, he’s naturally pass-first, but he showed he can get downhill, use his body and take advantage when a smaller defender ends up on him. I also liked his willingness to rebound and immediately get his team moving the other direction. Those habits give him a good baseline heading into high school and if he builds on that, he should progress in the program rather quickly.  He doesn’t need to become a high-volume scorer to make progress this year. If Berve can continue build comfortable with the ball in his hands, creating looks for teammates and being an absolute dog on defense, he could easily be one of the better players in this class. I’m curious to see how he looks in a few months but he’s an interesting prospect to follow.

Berve did a lot of things that translated not only to each game he had at the showcase, but each play. He made the game look easy on both ends. Defensively, he stayed attached to his man, navigated through screens, switched onto other guys, and communicated where he needed to be. He provided toughness, and that allowed him to score as well. He had a few downhill attacks where he used his body to shield, initiated contact, and still tried to score. He also forced a few mismatches when he had smaller players on him as well. I liked how Berve rebounded for his size and he started the break after. He’s a pass-first PG who showed that he can impact the game in various ways.

Berve is a player who will continue to rise on the watchlist thanks to his defensive instincts and expanding perimeter game. His style allows him to be disrupting of opposing offenses with strong anticipation, active hands and a knack for reading passing lanes. As he develops his ability to pressure ball handlers and force turnovers should translate into consistent momentum shifting plays. Offensively his confidence as a shooter from beyond the arc gives him real value as a spacing threat. If his progression continues, Berve has the tools to become a reliable two way impact piece moving forward
