Expert Analysis
Devontae Cobb | Prep Hoops Scout
Braydn Alward‘s ability to contribute in multiple areas on both ends of the court made him one of the top prospects in the building. Offensively, Alward could play inside and out, putting the ball on the floor to get a shot in one or two dribbles, excelling in the post with his footwork and finishing, while also stepping out to hit mid-range or three-point shots. Alward had solid ball-handling skills for his position, allowing him to initiate offense, drive to the rim, or create offense off the dribble. Defensively, his versatility stood out, as he could guard multiple positions, using his length and mobility to defend both bigger players in the post and quicker guards on the perimeter. He also excelled in transition, running the floor, finishing at the rim, or finding open teammates, all while crashing the boards on both ends. His adaptability made him crucial in systems that emphasized positional flexibility and team-oriented play.

One of the top producers at the event, Alward was a mismatch problem. Around the rim, he knows how to use his broad shoulders and power to bully smaller defenders. While he was able to draw post players out from the rim as they had to account for his consistent shooting ability from beyond the arc. Plays with his head up in transition, knowing when to push it himself or fire it ahead to teammates to create. Very interesting offensive chess piece for the right college, as his outstanding feel as a scorer shined all day in OKC.

He initiated plays and found cutters or open shooters, leveraging his high basketball IQ and court awareness. With his feel and understanding of the game, Alward has a definite future in basketball.

led Byron Nelson in hustle and scoring with 16 points. He dominated the defense with his overpowering strength, scoring through their defense, beating defenders in the low post with his back-to-the-basket skills, and capitalizing on opportunities with quick putback layups. A true glue guy, Alward did all of the dirty work, even showcasing excellent communication on both ends of the court. His competitive spirit shined bright, evident in his relentless pursuit of the ball, fighting for every rebound, chasing down shots full-court, and saving his team from giving up crucial points, displaying an unwavering motor. I admired the way he competed fiercely until the final buzzer.
