When Piedmont really busted the game open late in the first quarter and in the second quarter, the senior guard was a key part of it. He knocked down a pair of triples to extend the lead at first, then his quickness when getting downhill is a key part of the Wildcats’ offense to create open look for shooters. And Lloyd is a willing passer to fire it out to his open teammates.
The senior remains more of a combo than a true point guard prospect, because there are the occasional lapses. There’s times he can rely on his dribble too much, which led to a handful of turnovers late. Still, when he’s locked in and in attack mode, his combination of either scoring off the dribble (drives or threes) or driving and creating can change games. Lloyd has the tools to help lead the Wildcats on a deep playoff run, it’s just about raising the floor of his performances.

As a sophomore Lloyd was part of a Class 4A State Tournament run for Mount Saint Mary in 4A, then last year put up individual huge scoring for the Rockets. As a senior with Piedmont, his scoring production might not always be as loud against a 6A schedule. But his impact should only grow as a creative hub for the Wildcats. His ability to get downhill and make the right passes to open teammates will be crucial this year. Early scrimmage viewings indicate that he should excel at this role for his new team, with a better understanding of valuing the ball and how making the simple pass can be better than the highlight reel, wild pass.

Piedmont is loaded with perimeter shooters, which will give them a chance to compete in their first year in Class 6A. Lloyd is a quality shooter from deep, but what impressed the most when watching him in Del City was the way he attacked off the dribble. But it wasn’t always to score himself, it was getting downhill drawing in defenders and kicking it out to open players. Sometimes it was Lloyd creating directly with an assist that would count in the scorebooks, but it was also producing “hockey assists” or simply getting the ball moving for a crisp passing Wildcat team. Scoring will always be there for the unsigned senior, but watching him continue to develop his playmaking skills will be a huge boost to his college recruitment.

is one of the more underrated guards in the state this season. And that term gets thrown around so often in this sport but we feel like it fits Lloyd when you look at what he’s done this season. He’s been one of the top scorers in Class 5A throughout this season. Not just for the guard position. It seems like he’s had multiple games where he has put up 30 to 40 points and made it look easy. He has Mount Saint Mary as a team to take very seriously as the Class 5A playoffs open up this week. They are in the El Reno regional and it’s not crazy to suggest that Lloyd could lead Mount Saint Mary to a regional title this week.

would take home tournament MVP honors. Lloyd would go off in their win on Friday night as he finished with 36 points and a very full stat line as they beat Blanchard in the tourney semifinals. Lloyd and Mount Saint Mary would hold off Perkins-Tryon in the tourney title game to finish off the week. Lloyd had a great performance throughout the week as he was doing a little bit of everything to help his team win. Offensively, it felt like he couldn’t be stopped and he could hurt defenses in a variety of ways. Mount Saint Mary is an interesting team to look out for when it comes to Class 5A. Because they are going to have one of the best players in the playoffs and that could be enough.

, who’s very quickly turning into one of the top scorers in 5A basketball. Lloyd would finish with 37 points, in one of the top scoring performances from Tuesday night’s games across the state. What’s interesting to see is whether or not Lloyd can help carry Mount Saint Mary to the state tournament as they’ve been bumped up to 5A. Lloyd and Mount Saint Mary are back on the court on Thursday against Plainview in the first round of the Madill tournament. They definitely come into that tourney as a team to watch and potentially the team to beat.
