Expert Analysis
Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Moore had the opportunity to break out this season on an individual level after slowly rising up the ranks of the Downingtown West rotation over the years, and the senior swingman took full advantage with a big senior year. He’s shown intriguing flashes in the past but got to put all the pieces together as an offensive focal point for the first time. He brings clear scholarship-level size and athleticism on the wing with smooth scoring instincts at each level of the floor and a consistently aggressive mindset. Moore will suit up with Uptown as an unsigned senior but is also open to prep school opportunities, a route that could potentially open up D1 paths as he continues to add reps to strengthen his feel for the game in higher-level settings.

Moore is a bullish swingman who plays with an immense deal of versatility. He showed that he can play on or off the basketball and had his fingerprints all over the game for his Downingtown West team. Moore has great instincts of the game and frequently found others for scoring chances of their own with his passing. Moore made the most of his opportunities from the foul line. He had 15 points in a win over Whitman (MD). Really like the way he can fill up the box score. He would be great for a division two program or a prep school.

Moore has been one of the more college-ready prospects I’ve seen here in the first two days given his size, physical traits, and his ability to score it from multiple levels. He helped Downington West to a bracket title behind a nice stat line of 15 points, seven assists and five rebounds, which is a good representation of the impact he had both as a scorer and offensive hub from the top of the key. Moore has good instincts playing off the ball and understands how to put himself into spots within the flow of things. He rebounds it well and goes to get the ball at its peak. Once he gets his claws on it, there aren’t many players who are going to pry it from him.

First emerging as a sophomore coming off the bench, Moore has worked his way up the rotation each year from a jack-of-all-trades role player to now a go-to scorer heading into his senior year. With standout positional size and athleticism on the wing, he’s gradually expanded his game off the dribble to be able to get to his spots and create space to rise up for his own shot at multiple levels. He’s an aggressive straight-line slasher who can throw down on an unsuspecting defender’s head while also showing some slick passing vision within offensive structure. Moore also plays a tough-nosed floor game, using his athletic tools to impact on the margins. He’s a clear scholarship-level talent who could even scratch the surface of the D1 realm with more consistent perimeter shooting shown over the course of the winter or into a theoretical prep year.

-Didn’t get stats for his game but really came away impressed by his all-around impact on the game as a no-brainer LM D1 prospect. Moore has a strong frame, decent back foot burst, turns the corner nicely and keeps that 1-step advantage all the way to the rim, finishes well with either hand, is a great passer, and can shoot from beyond the arc. Moore showed good touch and balance on frequent stop n pop floaters in the key and has a nice scoring bag off of pivot moves in the paint. The fact that he’s also taking care of business in the classroom with a 3.9 GPA should make him an easy target for LM college coaches looking for a dependable wing prospect.

Under the radar having played behind multiple 1,000-point scorers during his high school career, Moore is really turning the corner as a player and prospect while stepping into a marquee role for the first time as a rising senior. Despite a lopsided loss, Moore looked a bit bigger and even more explosive, showing himself to be a dynamic threat as a shot-creator at multiple levels of the floor. He’s athletic as a finisher at the rim and shows some vision as a dropoff or kickout passer when he draws help defenders off the dribble. D1 coaches will look to see more of a refined off-ball game as a shooter, but as Moore continues to make strides he should be firmly on the radar of scholarship-level coaches heading into the final stretch of the grassroots season.

Having slowly climbed the ranks of the perennially talented Whippet program, Moore finally will step into the role as the go-to guy entering his senior year. A jack-of-all-trades wing who’s shown ability to fill in gaps effectively from a smaller role, he should have every opportunity to build on the scoring growth he showed over the course of a breakout junior year. Moore is an aggressive slasher with craft and polish attacking to either side, showing particular effectiveness playing out of triple threat from the perimeter. He’s capable of climbing the ladder to finish above the rim in the flow with flashes of pullup shotmaking to boot. He lacks a true calling card for D1 programs but scholarship-level coaches would be wise to get eyes on him with his high school team before he returns to a glue-guy role in AAU.

In our first evaluation of him since the summer, Moore showed nice improvement in some key areas despite a modest output and the lopsided score. He’s filled out his frame really impressively, while perhaps adding an inch in the process and all without losing any mobility or vertical athleticism. His handle has also continued to develop as he grows into more of a shot-creator from multiple levels. Moore is still adding layers to his game but is a clearcut college prospect who could play his way onto scholarship radars over the course of the next year.

Moore is a “big guard” who can score at all three levels, rebound and work as a secondary ball handler. A highly accurate jump shot with range well beyond the arc is Moore’s primary weapon. But with his size and physicality he can produce points on dives to the cup, via the offensive glass and the occasional post up. Additionally, Moore will use the bounce to get to the rack and score over defenders. In D-West’s 1st Round victory over Chester, Moore posted 19 points. Eight of those points came in the decisive 4th quarter. Earlier this month Moore dropped 20 points in a win over Great Valley.

Moore is a complimentary off-ball player with a well-rounded set of skills. Used to playing off of other kids players, he gets involved by relocating into open space for threes, cutting off of someone else’s drives, and chasing offensive rebounds. Then, when he gets a turn to spin, Moore can create efficient looks for himself.
