Hopkins has quietly become on of the more improved senior guards in the Baltimore area and is now garnering attention from DIII programs thanks to his steady production and performances this fall. He can be featured on or off the ball for this McDonogh team and when he’s off of it, can pose as a spot-up threat around the perimeter as well as a guy who can create his own offense with the shot clock winding down. Hopkins can control the tempo and push the pace to expose advantages in the open floor for his team and while he provides solid on-ball defensive pressure, becoming more vocal will be a key point of improvement for him moving forward and eventually at the collegiate level.

Electric scoring guard coming out of McDonough. BJ gets to his shot automatically no matter the defender. He averaged well over double-digits over DMV Live and I see that continuing over the course of the regular season.

Got a chance to see BJ perform a couple times at DMV Live, and he was electric. Small guard but makes up for it with his big-time scoring ability. Great perimeter shooter that will drains jumpers all night if the defense allows. BJ is adept at reading the defender and choosing to rise up into his shot. I like watching how he makes the defense pay for any mistake they make. Comfortable creating for himself off the dribble and is a really tough cover when he goes 1-on-1.

-Really liked the defensive activity, paint touches, and perimeter shooting from Hopkins in this one. He served as a disruptive force both as a POA and help defender, jamming drivers into picking up their dribble and rotating out to shooters well after getting two feet in the paint to double down on a big/crashing for a rebound. He’s got good burst with the ball in his hands but can also be successful off of it as a shooter. Productive day for the rising senior.
