Barrett Loer
About Barrett
Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
Loer was a big part of the scoring punch for St. George’s. He’s very good in transition and takes long strides to the hoop before using his excellent wingspan to finish at the rim with ease – he also has some really solid hops. Most impressive, though, is his three-point shot. He has a picture-perfect release and can shoot it well on the move or in standstill positions, as well as off the dribble. If Loer improves his off-the-dribble game and gets a little more comfortable attacking second-side closeouts (some added muscle to keep his line would help here), he could get some minutes next year at Rhode Island.

Loer is an athletic swingman who thrives as a slasher. He excels in the half-court and gets to spots in the mid-range off the bounce. There are some small flashes as a shooter in his game. Loer has good touch around the basket and can finish with either hand. He has a high basketball IQ and can think well on the fly in the midst of game.

Loer, New England’s 13th ranked prospect overall, will continue his academic and athletic careers in the state he plays in now, when he attends the University of Rhode Island. A dynamic athlete, Loer was one of the region’s top risers coming out of his sophomore season, eventually gaining offers all the way up to the high-major level. He’s a threat to score any time he has the ball in his hands, is a tough downhill driver, and can finish in a variety of ways at or above the rim. He has a good feel for the game as a passer, often finding cutters in scoring positions off his own drives. He scores off the ball as a spot up shooter and cutter. Defensively, he’s a bigger guard that can really rebound the basketball and offers some rim protection from the help side. He’s a terrific pick up for Rhode Island and profiles as the type of prospect that can grow into an all-conference level performer in the Atlantic 10.

Loer, who came off the board this summer with a commitment to Rhode Island, is one of the top scorers in New England. While he has a big time reputation on the offensive end of the floor, he pops as an athletic prospect that can make an impact on the defensive end as well. One of last summer’s top stock risers, he battled some injuries this year, but again proved to be among the top wings in the region. He’s a bouncy athlete that finishes with authority in transition, can score at all three levels, and has the ability to finish off either foot with either hand by the rim. He does a bit of everything on the offensive end of the floor – shooting, ball-handling, facilitating, and rebounding. Defensively, he’s a solid perimeter defender that can shut down the ball and fly around to be disruptive in passing lanes. He’s also a high level rebounder that can grab and go to initiate offense. He should be one of the top performers in the NEPSAC and will look to lead St. George’s to a championship this winter before heading to the A-10.

Barrett Loer Barrett Loer 6'5" | SG St. George's | 2025 State #360 Nation New E is a big-time scoring option with tons of flash to his game. Athletically, he stands out right away with a huge vertical jump making it functional within gameplay. Loer has a quick first step and uses that to dunk at the rim in the half-court. On the ball, he can shoot from everywhere including from way beyond the arch with a quick shot release. Loer can make things happen through traffic, always getting the ball to the basket with crafty spin moves. Off the ball, he can hit shots off the catch and make smart cuts to finish strong for easy scoring opportunities. Loer is a talented offensive piece and should be very high on the list of programs and coaches needing that extra scoring juice.

The 2025 Loer is widely viewed as one of the higher-level shooters in the region. The St. George’s combo guard was able to parlay a strong school season and AAU season in the month of June as he garnered offers from Albany, Bryant, Siena and the University of Rhode Island. Currently sitting at 11th in our 2025 rankings, it would not surprise us to see Loer continue his trajectory upwards as July carries on as he makes the live period rounds with the Middlesex Magic.

The 6-6 rising junior wing plays with an aggressive edge and displayed his elite 3-level scoring ability. Loer finished well around the rim and exploded for a game-high 28 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field. Loer’s stock has continued to rise as the summer progresses and will be a viable difference maker playing multiple positions on the floor.
