I liked the way Williams orchestrated the offense as the floor general. The 6-foot-3 southpaw guard came into high school and played strictly a catch-and-shoot role for a senior laden Mt. Carmel group and over the last year has really carved out a role for himself with the Cougars as a dependable defender from the point of attack. Offensively, his game and confidence has grown with develop functional athleticism to make him more of a threat not only for straight-line drive finishes around the rim, but also above it with some authority. It’s always tough making the transition from a scoring guard to more of a table-setter, but it’s been a smooth one thus far for Williams as he can still tap into his bucket-getting ways when needed.

Williams carved out a nice role for himself on this year’s MIAA championship Mt. Carmel team and for the stretch to end the season, was a consistent starter for head coach Tony Martin. The 6-foot-3 southpaw guard infused a little more on-ball duties and showed some improvement with his handle, initiating half court sets and overall ball security. When playing off the ball, he hangs his hat on the strength of his long-range shooting. Particularly from the corner, the lefty is confident in his ability to convert shots at a high clip and came through in crunch time on multiple occasions this season for the Cougars. He’s a prideful defender who can consistently provide full court pressure on the opposing point guard with quick feet, active hands and disciplined habits of keeping his man contained without gambling. Mt. Carmel loses some valuable production in their backcourt when looking ahead for next season, which should mean for Williams’ number to be called with regularity in more of a playmaking role.

-Williams battled through some tough TOs in the 1H to still make a positive impact on the game as a dynamic 2-way slashing guard. Williams started things off with a stepback 3, curled around the big at the elbow to catch the pass to score off the face cut, hit a floater with the left, scored twice off of baseline drives from the corner, and applied a ton of ball pressure both on and off the ball for OLMC. Want to see him tighten his handle to allow him to find teammates off the bounce without turning it over to unlock another level of value as a prospect.

I thought Williams played a critical role off the bench after he settled into the intense environment. Plenty of St. Frances players were trying to get into his head after he had a negative play here or there, but Williams stayed focused and played within himself, which resulted in an important fourth quarter stretch to create separation. When Williams is playing with confidence and making himself available in windows around the perimeter for driving guards like last night, he can knock down momentum-changing three’s. Once he saw a couple drop, it fueled his effort defensively as the blossoming sophomore made a huge stop and stripped the ball free after moving his feet and taking on contact. Williams finished the showing with eight points.

-Continue to come away impressed with the pace and aggression that Wilson plays with, particularly on the defensive end of the floor— even in a showcase event. It’s not typical to see a ton of defensive effort in showcase environments but he came away with several steals/blocks that he turned into points at the other end. Wilson ripped through to get the corner and hit the lay off the BLOB curl from the corner, scored on a double clutch transition lay off the window, had a good recovery for the block on the ball, hit a spin move lay off the window from the midpost, and scored off a high pickup euro over the defender. Wilson has added weight this season and as a result is able to guard 1-4 and is playing well through bumps, absorbing contact on the way to the rim multiple times to score at the rim. Williams mixed in a 3 off the bounce to balance all of the damage he was doing at the rim, showing improved shooting mechanics from deep as well as a softer touch on shots in the paint. Strongly believe that he has one of the highest floors of the guards in the local 2028 class because of the speed, leaping ability, and the way that he can lock down 1-3. Expect his year-to-year development to be buoyed by his intensity and work ethic.

Williams is a brash southpaw guard who has the ability to make loud scoring plays in the matter of seconds. He is an elite marksmen from deep who can get hot in a jiffy. Williams shooting ability needs to be addressed in scouting reports or he will torch your team. Williams ability to fill it up on offense is his calling card. He is very crafty and keeps the ball on a string. Williams showed that he can rebound. He is a prospect who should have a breakout year in the BCL.

A talented 6-3 guard I appreciate his cerebral approach in an environment that can sometime be chaotic. He never tried to do too much and stuck with what he does well, which is knock down shots from mid-range, take care of the basketball, and make good decisions with it. Williams surprised a bit with his ability to finish over the rim as well as get more than his rightful share of rebounds at both ends of the court. A good-looking combo guard with impressive size, Antwan displays quickness off the dribble and uses his physicality to finish strong at the rim. His versatility and ability to play both on and off the ball make him a valuable contributor on the high school level for the next three years of varsity play.

-Williams’ calling card is a trait that is demanded of the coaching staffs that he competes for in both HS and AAU: defense. The lengthy guard is a ferocious on-ball defender that has the quickness and defensive IQ to cut off his matchup’s driving lanes to the basket and force up contested jumpers that rarely find their mark. Williams is also effective off the ball as a ball-hawk of a defender that sees man and ball very well, keeping his matchup within two strides while jumping passing lanes or swooping in to collect a steal from behind. Love his tenacity at the other end of the floor too as he is a pretty fearless slasher with the ball in his hands, getting to both the rim and FT line with ease.

-Loved the aggression at both ends of the floor from the rising sophomore as he was completely fearless for the Cougars throughout the event. I believe he deserves consideration as a top 5 perimeter defender in the area as he was incredibly impressive at the defensive end of the floor. A physical guard that navigates screens well, does a great job of forcing sideline, and has very quick/active hands– he was switched onto Mundey late in the game and forced several tough shots down the stretch of that contest. The lefty can also boogie at the other end of the floor, showcasing pretty good feel for when to attack closeouts and get all the way to the rim while also understanding when to take a 1 or 2-dribble pull-up in space. Definite candidate to move up in our 2028 rankings here in June.

Antwan continues to flourish with a balanced, high-IQ feel on the court. He demonstrates effective floor management skills, balancing his scoring with coordinating plays for others. Antwan is fundamentally sound with his ability to knock down shots inside and outside the arc but also plays under control in creating and setting up others.
