Ohio Champion got a huge win to close pool play over Gateway Knights that was fueled by Elwer. In overtime, Elwer scored four straight on two separate trips to the foul line including the game-winning free throws with 2.5 seconds left. Elwer is a high IQ player who doesn’t turn the ball over, plays at his own pace and makes toughness plays on both ends. Elwer had a couple nice finishes where he hung in the air and avoided a shot blocker in this game, showing what he’s capable of doing with the ball in his hands. I expect scholarship programs to make Elwer a priority to see throughout the rest of the summer with Ohio Champion.

receives the majority of the shine, and for good reason, Andrew is having a sneaky excellent season himself. A 3-and-D wing guard who makes shots at an elite rate off the catch, Elwer has the potential size to switch onto different positions and his length gives him the ability to be an impact defender down the road. The Blue Jays are the favorite in Division VII this season and after falling short in the regional final last season, I expect them to remain locked in all postseason this time around.

A school record 22 made 3-pointers defines exactly why it’s so tough to beat Delphos St John’s when their offense is clicking. Elwer was money on Tuesday evening in front of a packed home crowd with multiple one dribble 3-pointers to get the defense off of him and create room to fire away. I liked how Elwer moved off the basketball and he’s a perfect secondary scoring option with his ability to make shots off the catch and perform simple dribble moves against hard closeouts.

Delphos St John’s has state title expectations with three Elwer boys playing and Coach Elwer on the sidelines. Andrew is the middle of the three Elwer’s for the Blue Jays and had a breakout grassroots season for Midwest Basketball Club 3SSB 16 U. Elwer has positional size, understands how to move without the basketball, defends and makes shots off the catch. These skills make him a valuable piece as a low usage player next to other stars. This has allowed him to carve out roles next to his older brother Cameron, as well as Division I prospects on the Midwest Basketball Club 16 U group. With his combination of basketball skills and how he’s evolved as an athlete, I expect scholarship programs to target Elwer early in his 17 U grassroots season.

I liked the development and steps Elwer is taking with his game. He seems to be ready for a bigger role this season and is showing more offensive skills. I liked his touch around the rim and the ability to finish in traffic. He continues to grow and get longer, and this shows with his finishing a lot because he is now getting baskets at the rim that he wasn’t making in the past. He is becoming more confident in his ability, and this is a great sign for him moving forward.

Delphos St John’s were dominant in a victory over Centerville where their shooting depth really stood out. Elwer has impressive positional size and showed off his ability to attack in a straight-line drive after he knocked down a few 3-pointers that caused hard closeouts on him later in the game. Good to see Elwer look more confident as a scorer and with the ball in his hands because he has the physical frame and ability to be one of the top small school players in northwest Ohio this season.

Elwers is a nice sophomore guard prospect who plays years above his age. He has a good maturity and toughness to him. He has a smaller build but that does not stop him from competing. He does a good job of scoring by finding the open spot on the floor and spotting up. He is a knockdown shooter. Can’t wait to see him play against some guards at this event.
