Michael Roth | Prep Hoops Scout
A prospect I’ve seen plenty thanks to his team being on the Prep Hoops Circuit this spring and summer and he’s continued his upward trajectory. One of the most impressive athletes in the state of Ohio, Holden is a perfect small ball center who is going to the right level at Tiffin with a chance to potentially make an impact right away. Throwing down some highlight-reel dunks and protecting the rim with a few backboard tapping blocks, Holden makes his presence felt in the paint. I thought Holden did a nice job of protecting the rim without fouling, a skill that will be key at the next level. One of the most impactful players in the GMC, Holden is a big reason why Hamilton is tied for second in the conference.

Hamilton was the second game of the morning for me and Holden made sure to wake up the crowd with a couple powerful dunks in a big victory over Frankfort. A big-time athlete in the paint, Holden was grabbing every rebound in his vicinity and getting second chance points. A quick second jump, Holden even got a few third chance opportunities due to his strength and explosiveness. It shouldn’t take long for scholarship programs to lock in on Holden as the summer continues. Hamilton won their second game 76-9 to advance to the elite 8 of their bracket!

A prep hoops circuit standout, Holden is one of the most gifted athletes in the state. Throwing down a handful of dunks in every game I’ve seen of him this spring, Holden gets his hands on the rim often. Flashing some perimeter ability with the jumper and ball handling, Holden’s early college role might be best suited as a small ball center where he’s able to use his physical tools against taller bigs. Expect a big senior season for Holden in the GMC and scholarship interest to come sooner rather than later.

R4L has a talented pair of forwards who have some unique offensive versatility. Abib has impressive ball skills for a prospect his size while Holden is a special athlete.

One of the most athletically gifted players on the Prep Hoops Circuit, Holden is a monster in the paint. On Sunday, Holden dominated the offensive glass and used his quick second jump to get second chance points in the paint. On the defensive side of the ball, Holden was spiking shots like a volleyball player to protect the rim and start the fast break for his team. In a back-and-forth game, his alley-oop slam with a few minutes to go was a swing point in the game as R4L gained some momentum. At the buzzer, Holden’s teammate, Noah Savard hit a bank shot from half court to win the game for R4L in the best finish of the weekend.

R4L Elite 2024 went 3-1 on the weekend and this excellent athlete with elite physical tools played a big role in their success. Holden had a couple of 20+ point performances including finishing the weekend with a 28-point game in a 67-64 win over Ronnie Fields Elite Plus 2024. He is so hard to guard when he gets downhill to the rim.

You will be hard pressed to find a prospect on the Prep Hoops Circuit with more athleticism or better physical tools than this prospect for R4L Elite 2024. Holden is 6’5″ with excellent strength off of the bounce, explosiveness at the rim, and the ability to finish through contact. He is really hard to stop in transition or when he gets going downhill to the rim. Check him out this weekend at the Havoc in the Heartland.

Holden is a prospect who initially got on my radar playing for Hamilton in June, but improved his stock in the July live period with Midwest Basketball Club’s 3SSB team. Holden is a springy athlete who plays with a great motor and is always active around the rim on both ends. Holden might be a little undersized for a C but his explosive athleticism and motor make up for a lack of height. I really liked what I saw from Holden in July and am excited to continue to monitor his development.
