Echevarria, a guard out of the St. Mark’s School in Massachusetts, finished his high school career by being named the Class B Large Co-Player of the Year. Echevarria helped lead St. Mark’s to the Class B Large title, a culmination of one of the best seasons in the school’s history. A heady lead guard, he evolved this winter from a scoring guard to true lead guard, making plays for his teammates and generating easy baskets in the half-court and in transition. He continued to knock down shots at a high clip from behind the arc while proving to be competitive on the defensive end and a good decision maker out of ball screen actions. He’ll continue his academic and athletic careers in the fall at Trinity.

Echevarria played a nice floor game for St. Mark’s and really took them home down the stretch. When Canterbury made the game close towards the end of the second half, the Trinity College commit had a bunch of nice takes to the rim where he either finished or took contact and got to the line. He has such an explosive hesitation move and easily breezes by his initial defender, and then he makes excellent decisions for himself or his teammates once he touches the paint.

Echevarria is one of the more fascinating players in the region in terms of how he can change his game given who he’s facing. Against Kents Hill, the 5-foot-10 guard got to the paint at will and showed off better facilitation ability than I’ve ever seen from him. He had some special passes off the bounce and consistently got wide open shots for his teammates—he wasn’t even really looking to score, because he didn’t need to. Instead, he raised his teammates’ confidence. Echevarria is a big time maestro who should be LOVED by the Trinity coaches next year.

Echevarria, a scoring guard out of St. Mark’s School, made noise as a playmaker that found a way to get easy baskets for himself and teammates. The big time scorer operated as a facilitator early on, showing a quick first step and some real lower body strength on his drives. He sprayed the ball all over the floor to shooters and eventually, picked his spots to get to the rim or create space for his jumper. Defensively, he showed a high compete level and a willingness to guard at the point of attack, both of which were noticable in this setting.

Another tournament, another weekend of Echevarria dominating with his strength and control at the point guard position. Even though he’s undersized — standing at 5-foot-10 — he’s ridiculously strong and other guards just bounce off of him when he gets going downhill. The shot is very hit or miss, but he can get incredibly hot when he’s feeling good. Defensively, he has active hands and slides his feet very well. He should be the starting point guard and a key cog for St. Marks this season, and I would bet he’ll find a high D3 fit the year after that.

was doing everything you want from a lead playmaker. He was creating offense from his defense, making steals on the ball. He was also getting to the rim to make reverse layups and even hit some catch and shoot threes.

Echevarria looked so much more controlled than the last time I saw him. Against Crown, he was one of the only guys that could consistently get into the paint and once he got there, he played with control and strength against tons of big guards and forwards. He finished well in the paint with both hands and also hit a good number of mid range shots off the bounce (as well as some threes). Most impressive is his on-ball defense, where he slides his feet to beat handlers to the spot and has super active hands and a strong base. He has a dog mentality that makes him difficult to go up against but a pleasure to have on your side.

Echevarria is fresh off a really solid season at St. Marks, and now he’s running the point for Above The Rim this AAU season. The pitbull-style point guard is a true floor general who loves to operate in the pick and roll; he’s great at throwing the pocket pass and likes to play at his own pace. He had some really nice takes to the rim where he finished with his left hand on the right side before the defense even realized he was shooting. Defensively, Echevarria plays hard and is a brick wall when larger players try to post him up. Tough kid.

Echevarria is a quick-twitch point guard with the ability to set up his teammates and knock down threes off the catch and off the dribble. The 5-foot-10 junior is certainly undersized, but he brings a fight and toughness that makes him seem bigger than he is. He also handles the ball well and has good passing vision, which makes him a solid floor general. Echevarria looks relatively mature physically – he should be getting some D3 or even low scholarship looks after next season if he continues to improve his offensive skill set.

Echevarria had a terrific summer while running with Above the Rim Elite. A big time scorer, Echevarria has turned himself into one of the region’s top perimeter shooters. He’s elite in catch and shoot situations, but also has the ability to create space off the bounce to get into his shot. He’s a quick twitch athlete that has some wiggle in tight spaces and the ability to finish in a variety of ways around the rim. He’s a willing ball mover, does a great job of moving without the ball, and has solid burst when getting downhill. Defensively, he has quick feet and quick hands, allowing him to be a solid on-ball defender. He’s solidified himself as a potential scholarship prospect and should be on the radar of colleges coaches this winter.
