There are a few players playing in each league that I’ve seen play before, a couple who already have somewhat of a name for themselves, as well as a couple who might be flying under the radar a little bit.
Here’s a quick look at some of those players.
1. Devontes Cobbs Devontes Cobbs 6'3" | CG Overtime Elite | 2022 GA – Hillcrest Prep 2022
Cobbs is an explosive athlete. He has an incredible first step and can get to the rim with ease. He’s looking to finish strong around the rim. He is solid when it comes to moving without the ball, especially in transition. He gets out on the break and puts himself in position to catch a pass. He can handle the ball and he has an improved playmaking game. Can shoot from distance and can shoot off the dribble.
2. Brendan Terry – Crossroads 2021
Terry is a very versatile wing who can play multiple positions. He is active around the rim and is a solid rebounder. Crashes the glass for second shot opportunities. He can handle the ball and can play on the perimeter; has an improving jump shot with range out the three-point line. He’s got all the tools to develop into a lock-down defender on the wings. Can also cover bigs in the post.
3. Jaxon Kohler – Coronado 2022
When I first watched Kohler play back in December, he stood out to me most for his ability to move without the ball. As a big man, he plays around the rim and in the paint. He slips behind the defense and makes strong backdoor cuts along the baseline. He has some solid footwork in the paint for a young player and can face up and shoot over defenders. Good rebounder and good taking charges.
4. Jorge Ochoa – La Mirada 2022
Ochoa is a talented and versatile big man. He can play forward and he can play some small ball center. He can run the floor like a wing and he can handle the ball and make plays going to the rim. He can create his own shot and is able to beat defenders off the dribble. Can create contact and get to the free-throw line. Can shoot well from the perimeter.
5. DaRon Holmes – Montverde Academy 2021
Holmes had a breakout session last spring on the Prep Hoops circuit in Southern California, and his stock has just skyrocketed since then. He’s a versatile offensive threat who is able to score in the paint as well as shoot from the perimeter. Very solid midrange game. Looks to finish strong around the rim. He can protect the paint on the defensive end and he’s a very strong rebounder.
