Here are some of the players who turned in big performances at sub-state:
Devan McEwen, junior, Lebo:
Lebo, which finished the regular season ranked second in the state, is the fourth seed. They beat Colony-Crest 81-53, then got by Hutchinson Central Chrisitan 66-55. The 6-foot-2 McEwan was big when his team needed him. He knocked down 19 in the romp over Colony Crest, then tallied 23 versus Central Christian. He averaged 19.6 in the regular season and will be key to Lebo’s run in the state bracket.
Gavin Cornelison, junior, Frankfort:
Frankfort escaped Valley Falls 54-53, then just edged Beloit-St. John’s 62-59 to advance to state. Cornelison was held to just 2 points against Valley Falls, but bounced back for 17 in the sub-state final.
Aiden Gerstner, junior, Frankfort:
The 5-foot-8 guard has stepped up his game in the playoff run, going for 15 versus Valley Falls and 12 against Beloit-St. John’s.
Garrett Dalinghaus, senior, Frankfort:
The 6-foot senior saved one of his best performances for the sub-state final, racking up 19 in the 62-59 win.
