These players aren’t top 100 players in their respected class but are scratching the surface as they’ve put together impressive seasons thus far. Here are some players to keep an eye out for around Northeast Ohio’s Euclid district.
Bishop Thomas, Harvey
One of the most underrated scorers in Northeast Ohio, Bishop Thomas has been a leader along with Roderick Coffee all season long for Harvey. He finished the regular season averaging 19 points and 6 rebounds per game for a team that’s gaining steam at the right time. He’s a player that is very selfless and is constantly making the right play on the ball whenever he gets the chance. Thomas has also been one of the most consistent shot blockers in the area, as he is averaging more than two blocks per game.
Chris Blauman, Madison
The senior joined the 1,000-point club for the Blue Streaks just one month ago in a game against Riverside. He’s been an aggressive scorer this season for Madison and is an improved spot-up shooter. Blauman averaged more than 20 points per game during the regular season and is a great off the ball defender that just makes big plays in clutch moments.
Cam Smith, University School
Cam Smith is an overlooked player who’s got quick feet and that allows him to force his way to the basket where he does a good job of fighting off contact. The highlight of the year for Smith has been his game-winning layup to beat Western Reserve last month. He’s got the potential to have a breakout performance when the lights shine brightest in the postseason.
Jashun Cobb, Benedictine
Jashun Cobb has been a premier scorer for the Bengals this season. There is more to his game than just proving to score the ball in the open space. He’s also an elite defender, averaging more than three steals per game during the regular season which ranks near the top in Northeast Ohio. Cobb has very active hands and does a good job of creating pressure which can turn the game around in a matter of seconds. He’s a tough guard that can get to the rim in a few dribbles and has superb ball-handling skills, making him an intriguing player to watch for in the Euclid district.
Will Hagwood, Willoughby South
A junior who has progressively gotten better throughout the season, Will Hagwood is not afraid to test his jump shot. He’s built up confidence in his three-point shot and the lefty never gives up on a play. He doesn’t back down from contact on both ends of the floor and is a true floor general when the ball is in his hands.
Faris Dahman, University School
One of the area’s most complete three-point shooters, Faris Dahman has made his presence known for University School behind the arc. He made more than 50 3-pointers during the regular season, including hitting four in the second quarter alone back in a game against Gilmour in late December.
Brandon Ford, Lakeside
Becoming more of a complete player, Brandon Ford has broken out this season for Lakeside. In fact, in a recent game against Edgewood, the crafty point guard finished with a season-high 38 points to go along with six rebounds and six assists as well. He’s led the Dragons on the offensive side of the ball this season and is a player who can get to the basket often due to his speed and power when embracing contact. Ford is a budding guard who’s put Lakeside in many exciting late-game finishes during the regular season
