In the end, Smith managed to pull away despite having to constantly claw their way back throughout the contest. On top of an exciting game, there were 8 prospects with legitimate chances to play at the next level. Down below are the first 4.
Karl Chavis– 6’6 Senior Forward/Oscar Smith. Karl Chavis managed to do it all in this match up. Throughout the night we saw Chavis flash to the middle, face up, and take his defender to the paint with ease, using his length to either finish at the rim or draw the foul. On top of his ability to take his opponents off the dribble, Chavis showed off a floater, nailing two of them, amazing defense including several nasty chase down blocks, and tenacious rebounding. As Chavis continues to garner offers, many schools will look to enlist the services of this athletic forward.
Kahlil Oden- 5’10 Senior Point Guard/Indian River. Literally from the jump, it was clear Kahlil Oden had something to prove. A lanky, lightning quick point guard, Oden is constantly in attack mode. Mixing in a quick first step with his strong handle, Oden was a nightmare for the opposing team, going for 24 in the first half. Unfortunately, Oden took several nasty falls throughout the game on his hip, causing him to slow down. Oden finished with 26, and his consistent ability to get in the lane, drill long range jumpers and overall keep the defense constantly guessing makes him a joy to watch and an intriguing point guard prospect.
Andre Bottoms– 6’2 Senior Point Guard/Oscar Smith. Andre Bottoms is a classic point guard all the way. With decent size and excellent footwork, Bottoms has no issue getting in the lane and making well placed passes. Bottoms also is very capable as a shooter, showing off a quick pull up game from mid range area. What really stands out about Bottoms is his composure during high pressure times throughout games. When his team would go down by more than 10, Bottoms would press the issue and either finish or hit the right man for the assist. When sent to the free throw line, Bottoms was pure. When his team needed momentum, Bottoms would create off the dribble and lob it to Chavis for a nasty slam. In the end, Bottoms does what he needs to do to win, making him a well put together point guard prospect for any team in need of one.
Kenyon Giles– 5’10 Sophomore Combo Guard/Oscar Smith. Coming into the game, everyone knew Kenyon Giles could fill it up. Giles is a pure shooter, whether from deep range, the pull up off the dribble three, or pull up from mid range. However, his shooting prowess wasn’t what Giles had to provide on this night. Yes, he hit timely shots and drew fouls, but Giles also played great defense on a tough back court from Indian River. He even at one point forced a 5 second violation on Ky’Juan Oden, one of the best shot creators and space creators you will see in the area. With Giles showing off more than just his shooting ability, he will for sure be a young player to follow as he continues to grow over the next couple years.
