1. Millbrook Wildcats (8-1)
Last Rank: 1st (↔)
The Wildcats took their first conference loss of the season to the Leesville Road Pride this past Friday night 72-68 in overtime. The stat of the game: Millbrook shot 19-of-32 from the free-throw stripe. Big man Will Felton finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds but he went 3-of-12 from the line. It’s certainly an early wake-up call against a team that they could see two more times in 2019-20. Next up, Cardinal Gibbons on Tuesday then on the road at Sanderson on Friday.
2. Leesville Road Pride (8-1)
Last Rank: 2nd (↔)
The Pride got their revenge over Millbrook with a win at home to even the season series 1-1. A lot has been said about the return of Jalen McDonald but it’s senior guard Deon Daniels who has stepped his game up a ton this season for the Pride alongside Carter Whitt. Daniels put up 17 points and nine rebounds in their overtime win over Millbrook. He’s an explosive combo guard that makes things happen on both ends.
3. Sanderson Spartans (5-4)
Last Rank: 3rd (↔)
The Spartans are back above .500 in the standings with Millbrook coming up on the schedule Friday. They got a win over Cardinal Gibbons 72-71 with 32 points coming from senior guard Kamon Green. Green made the game-winning free throw with 1.9 seconds left to lift them to a victory. They’ll look to play spoiler against the Wildcats this week.
4. Enloe Eagles (4-5)
Last Rank: 4th (↔)
The Enloe Eagles are back in the win column after getting a 76-62 victory over the Broughton Pirates. They’ll look to keep up their winning ways with a game against Southeast Raleigh on Tuesday night.
5. Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs (3-5)
Last Rank: 5th (↔)
The Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs are another team that got a victory last week to remain steady in the rankings. They have a chance to make a move with a victory over Enloe on Tuesday night. They’ve won four-straight games heading into this one. Then, they’re at Leesville Road on Friday.
6. Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders (2-6)
Last Rank: 6th (↔)
Cardinal Gibbons dropped a close one to Sanderson and continues to struggle to get a win in conference action. At 2-6, they’ll look to adjust as things close out in Cap 7 play. They’ll travel to Millbrook on Tuesday night then play host to Broughton on Friday.
7. Broughton (0-8)
The Pirates remain the lone winless team in Cap 7 play. They’ve lost 15 games and counting heading into the final four contests of the season. They’ll look to snap their streak on Tuesday night against Leesville Road then travel to Cardinal Gibbons on Friday.
