This year I got a good glimpse at some of the top younger prospects in the state of Virginia. Below are five underclassmen that we will certainly be hearing about in future years.
2023 6’2 Davien Banks | L.C. Bird
Banks came in as the lone prospect on this list that I did not know a thing about but definitely made a name for himself in a big win against STAB. He finished with 11 points and 3-3 from three and looked like a confident shooter in doing so. Currently ranked at 39 in our 2022 Virginia rankings, I think he has the chance to keep on moving up as he is one of the better shot makers I have seen in this current Virginia 2022 class.
2023 6’7 Carter Lang | St. Anne’s-Belfield
I was very intrigued with the performance of the 6’7 freshman as he was bigger than almost everybody on the court and really used that to his advantage. He was great down low on both ends of the floor and was a nice scoring option around the rim when STAB needed a bucket. In a losing effort for STAB, he finished with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Look for colleges to start getting on board with one of the better big men in the state from the 2023 class.
2023 6’2 John, St. Germain | St. Anne’s-Belfield
Recently making the move over to STAB, John looks to be in line as one of the best prospects in the 2023 class in the state of Virginia. Already with a good frame, he seems to have a really good basketball understanding and high basketball IQ. One thing that really stood out was his ability to rebound the ball for his position as he finished with 7 boards on Saturday. He also chipped in 6 points and dished out four assists.
2022 6’8 Maliq Brown | Blue Ridge
The next big prospect to come out of Blue Ridge in the coming years is Maliq Brown. Already standing at 6’8, his size allows him to do a lot on offense around the rim. In a win against Moravian Prep, he was extremely efficient shooting 7-8 from the field and finishing with 17 points. He also tallied 8 rebounds and is looking to become a high major forward that tons of colleges will be calling about.
2023 6’4 Steven Stinson | Trinity Episcopal
Trinity Episcopal has become a powerhouse in the state of Virginia the past couple of years and one guy that looks to be part of that in the years to come is 2023 Steven Stinson. Stinson did a great job of keeping Trinity Episcopal in the game in the first half as he made some tough shots and looks like a guy that can score in bunches after he hits his first shot. He was efficient in a tough loss against John Marshall finishing with 16 points on 8-13 from the field.
